Got a ticket on the FJR this morning that I was glad for.

I decided to take the FJR instead of my commuter bike (03 Concours) this morning because the weather today is sweet.

Rather than sit on my wallet, I keep it in the right fairing pocket of the Concours and kinda forgot to move it to the FJR this morning.

Now for the last 20yrs. we've had two yellow/red blinker intersections that I drive/ride through pretty much daily and 3 weeks ago they changed to a 4 way stop.

Well at 5:30am traffic is pretty sparse and since it "used" to be a yellow flasher for me making a left I made a "California" stop while checking for cross traffic.

Half a mile down the road I notice officer friendly behind me with lights a flashing, so now he wants DL, Ins./reg. and comments on my rolling stop, says I hit 61mph on this 45 road here (via RADAR) and has very unfriendly comments about my RADAR detector (that never went off so far as I know BTW).

So, about this time, it dawns on me that I don't have my DL, only ins/reg cards.

Now it's starting to look really bad...is this guy gonna be a prick and write THREE tickets?

After he does his thing in the car, he comes out with the story about how he could have written me up for all 3 violations and how he rides and has only gotten 1 ticket blah, blah, blah, but since he was in a good mood he ONLY writes me a ticket for "failure to produce DL" no points!!! :yahoo:

Later I think that if I would have taken the Connie, and didn't go over 45 (unlikely) I probably still would have eaten at least 2pts for the rolling stop because I would have had my license with me.

So I'm $180 poorer this morning. :cray:

Lucky for you. Seems like ever cop I run into starts as a prick, and stays that way. Can't remeber the last time I got any kind of break.

$180 just for not having your license handy??!!

Move to Florida. Produce it at the courthouse within 5 days (or is it 3?) and the ticket disappears.

OTOH, we have one of the highest speeding fine schedules in the country.

Often times with those types of tickets, an explanation will even get the ticket dismissed since you did have a valid license, just not on you.

Maybe this web site has out of date information, but Florida seems quite reasonable in fines comparatively. Florida's fines according to the first Google search site using "Florida Speeding Fines":

6-9 m.p.h. $ 25

10-14 m.p.h. $100

15-19 m.p.h. $125

20-29 m.p.h. $150

30 m.p.h. and above $250

For comparison, Oregon's are:

1-10 mph $97

11-20 mph $141

21-30 mph $242

30 mph + $427

Double the above numbers if you are in a construction or school zone.

Going over 100mph (total speed, not over the limit): $1001

And I seem to recall signs on the Pennsylvania Turnpike that actually posted the fines for speeding, and they were HUGE. But, that's been a few years too. Don't know what they are today.

I've been very fortunate and the leo's around here have been more than kind to me. I've had a few stops as of late but no tickets. They were happy (and me too) to "instruct" me and "advise" me. Whew. (one stop - 67 in a 35, another - 76 in a 35, yet another - 63 in a 45) Dang feej didn't know how to go slow. I'm breaking the law alot less now with the FZ.

Our fines in the US of A are nothing to complain about. My brother in law, Lives in Norway, got picked up for speeding last week. 13mph over and was fined 1000 dollars or he had the option of 15 days in jail.

On 8/4 I was merely accellerating out of a work zone in a 25mph turn on Rt. 2 in western Mass., when I discovered I was the fly and the spider was turning his lights on from the side of his "web".

He clocked me at 45 (as stated above in a 25), and I was pretty much at his mercy. Lucky for me I was still in 2nd gear.

After our initial chat and he went into his car to hang out for a bit, he returned and said the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard.

"So, you had a birthday yesterday?"

He then gave me the best birthday present of my life - a verbal warning valued at $400!

Should have bought a lottery ticket at the first store I came to.

Hwy 12 in CA from Lodi to Fairfield has big signage that points out reckless driving will get you a $2500 fine

Unless you don't get caught.... I don't think they added that disclaimer to the sign though.

Lucky you. I know of a couple of forum members who got tickets on their actual birthday.

If I show up in our municipal court for this one, I think the officer would FRY me in front of our ever so loving presiding judge Charles J. Sprigman and I'd be paying $180 + court costs. :blinksmiley:

When I was in Switzerland last week, a local in Bern told me you lose your license for 3 months for going over 120KPH (74.5 miles per hour).

Same penalty for passing on the right on the highway. It took me three days of driving to realize all the laws I had broken with the rental car. I am waiting for the bill in the mail as they also have radar cameras all over the place.

Dude,

at that point he can't do ****. 180 for not having a DL on you? Call the prosecutor before the court date and talk to him/her.

I was stopped a couple of years ago for 65 in a 45. He let me go after noticing the DOB on my license and determining that it was my birthday that day. Best birthday present I ever got!

I moved to Texas ( Austin ) for a couple of years quite some time ago. I moved there from Florida to get a business going and took one of my dirt bikes with me. I used to ride it a lot in a huge wooded area not far from the house. Coming back to the house one day. I first cruised through the neighborhood then pulled into my yard. A local cop pulls in right behind me, lights flashing but no use of a siren. He accused me of trying to elude him....said he had to chase me all over the neighborhood. Crap, I never knew he was behind me. I told him he was crazy for thinking that. He told me to stay put and proceeded to his car and started to write.

I noticed he kept starting over....figured he kept making mistakes. ****!! The prick comes back and hands me SEVEN tickets. Now I'll admit that they were technically correct : No Texas registration, no Texas tag, no mirror, no Texas drivers license, and a couple other others I don't remember and the BIG ONE of trying to elude him. He said I was lucky he didn't haul me in.

I went to court. The Judge agreed I wasn't trying to get away from the cop. He dismissed a couple of the charges and said the others would be dismissed when I produced evidence that I had gotten all the licences I needed and brought the bike up to conforming requirements for street use. He charged me $85.00 in court costs and turned me loose.

Apparently it's changed, that's what I found, too. My last ticket was a base moving vilation fine of 52 or 58 dollars, don't remember for sure, plus $4.25 per MPH over the limit. A 10-over ticket would be right at a hundred bucks, but a 9 over would be WAY over the 25 shown here.

They also make every effort to link a really excessive speed, i.e. >30 over, into the reckless driving statute, making it a criminal offense. Reckless Driving used to be pretty clearly defined, and word was if there weren't any skid marks, there wasn't reckless driving. Except of course, running from the LEO is automatic reckless, and road rage is a judgment call on reckless.

I also found that producing a license or registration which was valid at the time of the citation will get the citation dismissed with a $7.50 fee.

For the OP, if all you got written up for was no license, he can't add to it if you argue. He can't tell the judge, "Well, I COULD have done failure to stop and excessive speed on top of no license, but didn't. Let's add those now." Obviously states are different, but in Florida it doesn't involve the judge or the officer, you just go to the counter and say "Here it is" and as long as the issue date is before the citation and the expiration is after, it's done, handled by the counter clerk. Don't pay it until you look into it.

Sounds like you gotta get out and meet more cops. There are breaks being handed out all the time!

Ahh, but whadda I know? I'm just a prick, too...

FJR P.,

I wont won't add the rest, since I find it disrepectfull. I know your job is hard and Thankless sometimes, but I appreciate all that you do to keep us(the public) safe.

What I would like to see is more attention to those Blokes who get married to the left lane on a 4+lane highway and won't move over. This seems to cause more accidents and problems than the safe speeder. How come this is overlooked more than anything I ever see in many states?

Again Thanks for your service to the public.
