Honda's come up with a new jeep-like concept vehicle that doubles as a boat. Looks like it gets up and goes.

CLICKY

I gotta get me one of these. No more waiting in line at the bridge...

I thought it was a cool idea until I saw the $135,000 price tag. If they could bring one in at about half that price, complete and ready to go, I think they would sell a bunch of them.

Edit:

I take this comment back. Since it appears that it can't be registered for the street I don't see much of a market for it.

135k? No biggie. Just charge all them young ladies 50 bucks for a trip or two around the lake, and you'll make your money back in no time. And you can catch a few fish on the way and keep the family fed while yer makin' the payments.

So you're gonna live on fish and Ramen for the next 8-10 years?? My wife says I can have one just so long as it comes with a bed and bathroom...Apparently I'm gonna have to live in mine.

Doesn't appear to be made by Honda, maybe an independent company it looks like. Gotta be based off of a Jeep because otherwise Jeep's lawyers would be all over them for that grill. They are one of those crazy image brand marketing lawsuit kind of companies you know, and their signature grill is their logo.

Still, looks like fun, but way outta my budget.

On further reading, that's a Honda engine. Man, how do they get away with that grill is what I want to know....

Uh Gary? You must have been out of circulation for waaaay too long. The "young ladies" don't pay for boat rides. At least not down here. Especially if they look like the ones in that video.

Fixt it fur ya.

It looks like it is built around a boat hull and the car parts would be a mix of whatever fits. It only looks like a Jeep.

NO warranty, even shipping damages you're on your own to fight with the trucking firm. What support right off the bat huh?

The company "WaterCar", basically consumes your 135K (turnkey) and you are then on your own. Next up in the negative dept, they claim it's not for road use or licensing on. Seemed like one buzz kill after another and upon my in-depth seek and review (and contact w them), they make other body styles... (yahoo, but not really)... after all the "We're not responsible for nothing, attitude" ...sea ya!

Well, if you can't register it for the street then what good is it? You can buy a very nice boat for a lot less money.

Looks like fun.

Except..

I'm doubting it's sea-worthiness. Would not like to be caught out in a squall.

With that hull, as shallow as it is, I'd be concerned about ground clearance -- not that great for off-road

It's ugly, to my eye.

Seriously over-priced.

Even if it could be registered street-legal, around here I'm pretty certain it would also have to be registered as a powered watercraft -- insurance would likely be a b###h

On the plus side, some of the, ahem, accessory items looked attractive

I don't think I could take the mental stress of having to decide if I wanted to tow my car/boat or Harley/bar stool for the day.

If the vehicle can't be registered for the street its real world value approaches zero. If a car/airplane can't be registered for the street its value would be near zero too. The Amphicar might have been lame on the water but it could be registered for the street too - where it was also lame. "We like to think of it as the fastest car on the water and fastest boat on the road."

A vehicle that promises to revolutionize drowning.

That kind of vehicle would just ruin all the fun at the boat launch on weekend mornings.

It was good to see that all of the lady passengers in that sales video had their maximum flotation safety gear.

It looked like the suspension actually lowered as the thing came up the boat ramp so I would guess it has pneumatic suspension to increase ground clearance. Still, I agree the hull would be a problem if you wanted to use it off-road. That's probably why they only showed it running in the sand. Also, it does not have 4-wheel drive, so it's not really trail worthy. It looks like a compromise vehicle that does nothing well. I take back my previous comment about it selling well if the price was lower. It won't sell if it can't be driven legally on the road.

Since we are all interested in the price and its practicality, it was not made for us. This is built for people that own jet powered motorcycles, have classic car collections in their 35 thousand square foot garage, have parking for their jet in their driveway and have their own entourage. The target buyer for this is the person who does not care how much it costs or how much warranty it has. When the buyer is loaded, he can pay for repairs or just buy a new one...And when has that much money, registration laws do not apply. Especially if this thing is parked on the yacht and is only used to send the butler to the mansion on the island for more Grey Pupon.
