Okay, i must be overworked. I'm trying to connect the power cables for my Garmin Quest. I've got an 05 ABS. I've been reading the best place to tie into is a blue wire. I've got the wiring diagram for a 04, and it shows a blue wire is for the meter lights. I found one under the guages. but when I connected to it, no power. Any hints? Any better place to find a wire to tap into? ran a new wire to the neg on the battery.

Thanks, Dave

I have two auxiliary fuse blocks (power strips), one keyed to the ignition "on" and one powered all the time. I have the GPS wired to the "full time" fuse block so that I can use the GPS with the ignition in the off position.

If the GPS is all you are going to add, why not run a fused wire to the Pos. post of the battery. I would think that the drain on the battery, even if you forgot to turn the GPS off would be negligible.

Just to make sure, was the ignition in the "On" position?

Like madmikey said, most of us run the GPS power to an unswitched or always on source so it can be used even with the bike off and the key removed. It has minimal power draw. Also like madmikey, In your case, I wold run a wire direct to the battery positive terminal for power.

Still, if you are going to be adding many more electrical doo-dads, the switched, or un-switched barrier strip is a very good thing: Clicky HERE for Warchild's FJRTech barrier strip farkle how-to

You wouldn't wire a Quest to an always on circuit because it sucks power to charge the battery whether it is turned on or not - and it can run for a bunch of hours without a vehicle connection.

That's one of the reaons I prefer the 276c - If I get stuck, I can unplug it and hoof it with the nav pointing the way.

Not sure about theQuest 1, but IIRC the Quest 2 has an option for loss of power -- either turn off, stay on, or charge the battery.

EDIT: Checked the manual -- options are stay on, or turn off (and continue to charge the battery -- therefore drains the battery with either setting)

I am sure that you can change the power setting to Normal, WAAS, or Battery Saver.
