Hello Jeff

I highly recommend for you to buy from your source, we can beat just about any price but the price you have listed is an excellent price and you should buy from your contacts anyway.

But I do think you should look into the new Garmin 2820 with bluetooth :D

pt-sp2820cf-sm.jpg

Carefree navigation meets hands-free communication

With preloaded street maps and built-in Bluetooth® wireless capability, Garmin’s StreetPilot® 2820 is the ideal road companion for your car or motorcycle. Featuring hands-free calling, real-time traffic capabilities, MP3 player, audio book player, and an extensive points-of-interest database — this deluxe navigator has it all.

Place hands-free calls with Bluetooth wireless technology

The StreetPilot 2820 integrates wireless technology with a microphone and speaker that lets you make hands-free calls on a compatible Bluetooth phone. Motorcyclists can connect a Bluetooth-enabled headset or helmet* simultaneously with a Bluetooth phone to the StreetPilot 2820 to talk hands-free on the road or receive wireless navigation audio prompts to their destination.

In addition, easily look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or from your phone’s call history log. Don’t know the phone number for your destination? Simply find and dial it from the StreetPilot 2820’s extensive points of interest database — including hotels, restaurants, stores, and attractions.

Navigate with Ease

The StreetPilot 2820 comes ready to use out of the box with preloaded maps of Europe or North America. Simply enter a destination, and you’re automatically routed with turn-by-turn voice directions that speak street names. A fingertip touch screen interface, remote control, and 2D or 3D map perspective combined with the ability to arrange destinations to minimize trip distance make navigation easy. It also accepts customized points of interest (POIs) such as school zones and safety cameras and includes proximity alerts to warn of upcoming POIs.

Avoid Traffic Tie-ups

Monitor traffic tie-ups with the addition of an optional traffic receiver. In select metro areas, with the addition of the GTM™ 10 or GTM 12 FM TMC traffic sensors** or GXM 30™ XM smart antenna**, the SteetPilot 2820 notifies you of accidents, road construction, and weather-related traffic delays before they are encountered, and then offers an alternate route. Simply touch the screen icon to calculate a new route. In addition to valuable traffic information, the GXM 30 and subscription to XM NavTraffic also provide basic weather information such as current conditions, forecasts, and Severe Weather Alerts.

Enjoy MP3, Audio Book Player and optional XM Radio

The StreetPilot 2820’s MP3 player, audio book player and optional XM Radio keep you entertained on the road. The MP3 player allows you to browse music by artist, album, and/or song. Optional audio books may be purchased from audible.com which features over 70,000 hours of audio programs. A subscription to XM Radio along with the GXM 30 smart antenna provide over 150 plus channels of commercial-free music, sports, news, talk and entertainment programming.

Interesting. I guess GPS's a really trying to become a complete Audio system (ala Starcom or Autocom) with XM, and now the bluetooth "unit". Not sure how sucessfully, though, they still don't have other wired inputs (yet?) for ipod's and radar detectors.

They do have the UI that you can use while riding.

Curious to see this play out...

James, you are busted! :D

I called today to talk to Rick and get a price for the 2730.

While I was on the phone I asked when you might see the 2820's coming in.

I told him I saw the info you posted today and Rick said,

"No James is on vacation, are you sure he posted it?"

Anyway, enjoy your vacation (stay off the computer, it will be there when you get back)

Please keep us posted on the availability of the 2820, especially if the price is going to be what Rick told me!

That sounds like the GPS for me!

It's hard staying relax on vacation, is hard work. I enjoy what I do and Rick should have known better.

Yes, the price we offer to members is great, but this is only if you don't have a GPS store near you, so please try to help out your local business first before ordering one from us.

When I told you guys that hang on that interesting things are coming up, I meant it and now you know what I mean, it's hard for me to tell you what's coming up, but it's great to have everything in one unit.

Thanks and Mahalo

James,

What would be a good entry level GPS for one who isn't so sure he really wants one?

I don' t need tunes(my engine purrs) or lots of extras like Bluetooth. I wouldn't mind battery and DC op.

Thanks and you don't need to answer this if you are on vacation.

A map user.....

Hmmm.... now the 2820...

ok, any major differences between the 2820 and the TomTom Rider?

As far as riding goes? big difference in price, but...

I was thinking about the tomTom Rider becuase I'm going to be going to New Zealand, Australia and the Netherlands.. next year...

Can I get maps for all of those in one unit? On cd?

I would presume I'd have to pay for the Europe and Oz downlands....

Do they download thru USB?

Or would it be better to just get one unit for the bike/Jeep and a handheld to take with me...?

I need some opinions here! <BG>

Since I just moved here to the Cleveland area, I'm not even sure where to go look at these things..

and since you're so great about answering questions, thot I throw these at you...

SP 2820 offers Text-To-Speech, MP3 player, audio book player, remote control and optional XM NavTraffic and/or XM Radio and speaker for use in car and audio out jack. Both SP 2820 and Rider offers Bluetooth option.

We could order either GPS for you at our cost plus $20.00 shipping/handling. Our costs are below:

Garmin StreetPilot 2820 p/n#010-00517-05 $793.08

TomTom Rider P/N#1K00-080 $737.05

Maps of Europe and down under are available for TomTom and maps of Europe are available for Garmin systems but these additional maps could be expensive. I would suggest a handheld units if you are not planning on much driving overseas.

Hi James,

Looking for a suggestion.

Is there a GPS available that can be used in a car, on a bike,

and be able to use portably for a starting geocacher?

Not looking for it to be the best at anything, but

reasonably funtional at all three.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

Nothing now, but I do know for sure there will soon be a unit that you can use on your bike, boat, car and use the topo map with it and it will offer turn by turn voice and visual command in the car or bike GPS mode.

Don't ask me which manufacture and what model and how much, probably to much for most.

I think you should be very happy with the unit once is out.

I was looking into purchase a Garmin c550. I saw that you were offering good prices to the FJR community so I wanted to ask you what would you be able to sell the c550 for?
Please let me know.

Thanks a lot

F1fan

Hello F1fan,

The Garmin c550 is not a motorcycle GPS product and we do not offer this product at a discount to anyone due to the MRP restrictions from Garmin. the MRP for this product is $799 and if you wish to buy one from us at that price, we will be more than happy to sell it to you. Try helping out your local small GPS dealer first nearest you, they will earn your business and help you out when you need it.

If you are going to buy one on the Internet, make sure to check with Garmin to make sure the dealer is an authorized Garmin dealer and they will send you an authorized Garmin dealer receipt or you will have problem getting the unit warranty from Garmin.

Just FYI.

If you need a Garmin 2820, 2730, 276c or 376c, let us know and we will be happy to help you out.

Mary

Sorry for the late reply.

I would take your bike with the old GPS cable to your local authorized Garmin brick and mortar store and ask them for help with this question. I am sure after they look at what you have as a GPS power cable connector, they should be able to tell you if it will work with your 2730 or 2820 unit. I doubt it will work with the TomTom Rider because it is not available till recently and not as popular as the Garmin units. Don't connect anything without first checking it with someone that knows their business or you may cause more damage to the electrical portion of your bike.

Good luck

Ramblin Man,

I have a SP(1) and iirc the connectors were the same on the 3 different version of the Street Pilot. If so, it's a different connector than used with the 2xxx models. The older one is a round, 4-pin connector while the newer model uses a rectangle-ish slide-in connector (based on photos I've seen).

Soon, there will be a Magellan PND AOI GPS unit that we can use on our FJR motorcycles, our jet ski, snow mobile, bicycle, hicking, boating, geocaching at a very reasonable price.

This Q4 will be lots of fun for all of us. I did say soon and did not give a time right?

James,
That sounds like what I've

been hoping for...keep us posted.

Thanks again!
OK, click on this link to view the MRM 2200 My Webpage

and Magellan website at Magellan GPS Roadmate 2200 and 2500

Have fun, been testing it for a few months now and this unit is an all around unit at a very reasonable price.

Great for what everyone is looking to do with it. Use it in your car, on your bike, on your snow mobile, go geocaching or hicking, and if you don't sink your boat or jet ski, go boating or jek sking.

You can load SD card with Topo or Marine, comes with Coast to Coast U.S maps and the 2200 have Text to speech along with the ability to receive Traffic report with the Traffic cradle which is optional.

No XM but there is some neat features coming for it, but for now, you can have your cake and eat it too.

All under $500 which is a deal!

ENJOY
