What can I put in the search to get info about GPS mounting? I know that there is a bunch of info available but nothing I put in the search seems to work. I am looking for ideas to mount my GPS on an 06 FJR. Thanks

How about "GPS Mount"

Just like that including the quotes.

That will get you around the 4 charactor minimum

I did a search of "garmin mount". That returned a plethora of threads. Most no applicable. You just got to weed through the pages and find the appropriately titled threads.

Here's a bunch:

Put it on a Dash or shelf. N/Line -Makes one for 03-05 and is currently designing an 06 model.

You don't have to get the very fancy(pricy) case for it. I've got just the mount and it looks a lot more sanitary and neater than the ram mount I've got on my Goldwing hanging on the bars.

Do you have a target release date for the '06 dash shelf?

What GPS do you have.
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I made the post and then had to go out of town. When I got back the post had been moved :poster_oops: and it took me a little time to find it. To answer your question, I have a Magellan Meridian Gold. The way it was mounted to my other bike was with a bicycle type mount but the bars on the FJR won't accommodate this mount. The stem mount look interesting if it will stay put and not move around. Thanks everyone for your input. I now have some options and some places to search.

I have my unit mounted to the left bar using the older $50 EZ-504 bracket that CycleGadget used to sell. RAM has a $10 device that does the same thing.

It bolts onto the bike using the two screws that hold the left or right control pod in place and provides a ball mount to which a RAM arm and bracket for your GPS can be attached. It is all very flexible (in terms of variety) and very secure - nothing falls off.

The RAM-B-309-1 is the attachment for the bike and Garmin has a wizard on their web site to help you choose components.

Find all of the RAM products at https://www.ram-mount.com/products/motorcycles.htm . They even have a wizard to help you choose a mount for your GPS unjit and bike (though not the 2006 FJR, not that you couldn;t use the '05 for this)

Those weird overpriced GadgetGuy enclosure mounts that cost almost as much as the GPS receiver itself are a complete and total waste of money in my opinion - aside from the fact that the thief can easily crack the case open or just unbolt the whole thing from your bike, if you use a portion of what you saved by NOT buying it to insure your unit against theft with full replacement cost insurance, you'll always have a unit.

A determined thief will get the device no matter what you do.

I tired about 5 diff mounts. Ended up keeping the techmount that plugs into the left mirror hole. My eyes need the GPS not too close and not too far, so this worked the best for me.

NYPete, do you have any picture of your set-up and maybe a little detailed info.

Thanks

What info. are you looking for? I have the basic gadget guy mount using the plastic Garmin motorcycle mount(the black plastic mount in the picture) and power cord. Everything is in the center of the bars and IMHO looks very neat, the machining and finish are excellent. I use a RAM mount on my Goldwing off the left handlebar switching my 2610 between bikes. The RAM mount just kinda sticks the GPS above the bars(kinda like an afterthought) and the mount on the FJR looks a heck of a lot better. I also use a flexible sunshade over the GPS. I've had Gps's on both bikes, 10K miles on the FJR and over 20K on the Wing, the Garmin plastic mount has never failed on either bike and works as good as the pricier Touratech mounts which IMHO is unnecessary.

Here's a couple of pictures from the Gadget guy site on a pre 2006 model:

Here's the one for the 2006(you don't have to use the pricy GPS case that he sells):

If you're interested here's the link to the home page;

https://www.gadgetguy.net/index.html

Then go to the photo gallery and you'll see the parts needed for your specific bike and photos of it on the bike.

The sunshade I use is Part Number: 065-0405 from:

https://www.cycoactive.com/default.htm

The only problem I see is that I don't know if they make a mount specifically for the Magellan, you'll have to search the site or send him an email to see if they can accomodate you.

I hope that's enough information to help you out.
