Is it a hum and you can still hear the GPS audio prompts or is it a hum and you don't hear anything else? Is your GPS powered off your bikes electrical system, either hardwired to the bike or through a 12-Volt power point? If it's powered off your bike, not from an internal battery in the GPS then it sounds like you need an isolated audio cable. Autocom sells those. This might be what you need.

Call Keith Goudelock (pr. Godlock) at Tulsa Truck Center 918.446.2245 for all things Autocom. He'll take care of you....

I thought that the 2720 didn't have an 'audio out' line like the 2730 or 2820 models do. ?!?!?!

Let's start by saying the 2720 certainly has an audio output connection - as the speaker is located in the power plug and the signal has to get there somehow.

I assume (always dangerous) that you have the motocycle cable? If so, then your interface between the 2720 and the Autocom has to be made using an isolated MONO interface cable - unless the Autocom and all of the rest of the connected gear is battery (not bike) powered and you are not connecting the device in any way to the bike's grounding system.

Also - that output is at speaker levels and Garmin's inputs tend to be much more sensitive than that - so you might need to attenuate (reduce) the signal. The simplest way is to use an inline headset volume control like the one that came with my old Shure E5Cs - Inline Attenuator web page

Yes i have the motorcycle harness with audio plug. does auto com have a special cable for this.

I have the power cable with the audio jack on it do i need a special cord for this to work right.
Its been to long since I had a 2720, but I "think" it needs a mono on one end and a stereo on the other. RadioShack? Or call Keith......

AND, the AUtocom power cord is notorious for the audio plug failing. More than one forum member has had to replace them.

I had a loud hummm when i plugged in my radar detector. I bought a star comm 12volt filter from bike effects and i got rid of about 95% of the noise. My ipod took care of the rest.....

Yes Kieth at tulsa truck center is the Autocom guru.... this guy knows his chit

IIRC, I read here that either the Garmin plug (that is what I suspect) or the Autocom plug is a bit screwed. Try spacing the plug out until it is a 1/16th out from seated and see if you get sound. That is what I had to do to get mine to work. I put in a small spacer, then heat shrinked the two parts together.

Angus,

I have a Garmin 2730 on my bike (which is very simular to what you have). Initually, I had the same problem that you describe. I rectified the problem by first going into the menu, then go to audio, and then switch the audio output setting from "Headset" to "Line out". This should solve your problem. Hope this does the trick for you!

Bananas!

Auto Com has special leads. You might try an isolated lead and or splitter lead from autocom. Cured all my ills with the inputs to the autocom.

I have the same GPS and the same Auto Com unit (I think) If you have something other than an Auto Com cable for your GPS that more than likely is your problem. I believe you need an isolater type cable.

As others here have said Keith is the man when it comes to com systems 918 446-2245

Thanks guys I called Keith caught him on the road. He said he will call me Monday and help me get the correct cable.

Kieth is a great guy,I've ridden with him a fair bit. He's a great rider.

He hooked me up with the autocom,mp3 and V-1 in the bottom of my tank bag. Only 1 wire comimg out to the jaskek outlet. Works great.
