Great news, I will not be riding my bike for a couple of weeks. I stopped by my dealer about my tick. The dealer called Yamaha about the repair, and Yamaha told them that they would repair it . No Yes, and four years after delivery. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

sidenote: Which dealer was this BTW?

Also: Is there a list if Yamaha dealers that have "successfully" performed the valve guide excessive wear repair? I thought someone was looking to set up a list of these dealers...not sure what came out of that.

Hehehehe... RESIST URGE NOT TO SAY, I TOLD YOU THAT BIKE WAS A TICKER. Glad to hear that your experience was pretty painless. It took me a long time just to get my dealer to believe that I had credible info about "premature valve guide wear" Probably because I'm a girl.

There are a couple of things that you want to be sure that the dealer orders when getting the valves & such. Make sure to tell him to order the head bolts & I ended up having to wait an additional week due to the fact they had to order valve shims. Not sure if the shims can be ordered in advance... but they will definitely need the head bolts.

Good deal Ed, hoping to see you in June, Heidi

Edited to add: Wheaties, I think that all tick fixers can be found in the "Dealer Feedback" part of the forum. I don't know if anyone has compiled all tick fix dealers into one spot.

I wonder if the dealers down in the dfw metroplex will be so kind if and when mine starts ticking.

Hello there, thats GREAT NEWS. I am new to the forum and a new owner of a used 2004 FJR 1300 w/34k miles on it. After riding it home I noticed the "tick" I have been hearing so much about. how many miles were on yours when they said they will fix it? I will be trying to fix mine in the near future

Is the tick noise associated with mileage? I only have 5600 on my 04. Should I be worried that in 2 years when I have more like 20,000 -25,000 it will start to tick and Yamaha will say too old.

Dave

oh no  another tick thread is erupting...

Best answer I can tell is that historically, these all eventually have gotten taken care of by Yamaha...as in the case above.

You can search the threads yourselves...I have yet to find a thread where it was refused.

It wasn't the fact you told me my bike is a ticker, It was the way you kept saying it over and over while laughing. I will call him tomorrow about the bolts. I think this happened after your transformed into Rocket Women at the gas station.See you in the spring.

Duster, there are multitudes of threads about the tick. Try the "search" function for more info than you'd care to read. You will most likely find answers to your questions.

And good luck, Heidi

Now c'mon, think that you're exagerating just a touch?

Lago, I had something like 42,000 on mine when I got it fixed.

So do you need to tell the dealership that you have premature warn exaust valves, or is there another phrase or info to convey

I'm glad to hear this news. I have the "YES" program, but I don't have the opportunity to put as many miles per year as most other FJR owners do - so, with an 05 with only 5k miles on it, this "tick thing" is the only pause I have with owning the FJR - and I am convinced that Mother Yamaha will take care of it, shoud it ever occur. Geeeez, I just wonder if the "tick" ever occurs, that I will be able to know it is happening

Cheers, and safe riding to all. Jay
