DH and I have just got home from a weekend ride to Vegas. As always, the FJR performed flawlessly. I had no trouble keeping up with his K1200S. What luxury it is, when passing a big rig on the freeway, to just crank that throttle and fly past. The time spend in the trucker's blindspot is minimized, so it's actually SAFER to go faster, right?

The purpose of the trip to was to meet up with a Ladies' Internet Motocycling group. Everyone except me was riding a cruiser. When invited to sit on my bike, there were murmurs of appreciation about the seating position. Who would have thought you could sit up straight on a 'sport' bike? I have risers to help with my short arms, so that gives a nice seating position.

This ride was the first time I've experienced the infamous heat around the legs. The weather was the hottest I've ridden in so far (107 degrees). The heat got through leather pants and riding boots but was tolerable.

On the way home, we took a 150 detour, to add some twisties to the otherwise very long and boring road.

All in all, a very good trip.

Jill

Hey Jill ~ Glad you had a good time! I'm off to Vegas first thing Wednesday morning for 6 days of fun, sun and misbehavin. Where did you guys go riding? It is pretty hot there already and this will be my first experience with dry heat but I'm just betting hot is still hot. :beach:

In case this wasn't a rhetorical question, yes, it's safer. Not just to stay out his blind spot, but to avoid an unstable load, and the results from a blow-out on one of his tires.
It really is nice to have that kind of roll-on power at freeway speeds.

When I've visited the bike show each year, most ladies gravitate toward the cruiser style of bike. I can only speculate as to why, but I think its because of the seat height and maybe their first entrance bike into street riding. There are always a few though who are trying out sport bikes, maybe they track day experience?

I think sport oriented bikes would be way more popular with the ladies if the seat height was lower to allow a flat footing.

Just try explaining that to your friendly (or not so) LEO.
