Just wondering if any one has mounted grip puppies over their heated grips?

I installed a set of Oxford heatred grips, and want to put the grip puppies back on

Just wondering if I will still feel the heat and want to make sure I don't melt anything

Thanks for any advice in advance

No trouble whatsoever; heated grips work fine under Grip Puppies...had them over my Symtec heaters for quite awhile now.

I have them over the stock grip heaters, no problems, work fine.

If you have the OEM grips, they don't cycle full on unless you are going a minimum speed, as the ground is pulsed through the ECM. Grip Puppies tend to insulate a bit and won't let full heat come through, but you notice this only at cold temperatures (30-40ish). In the process of ditching mine and going to try the Grip Buddies which alledgedly will let full heat come through...... next to bypass that ground to the ECM.

I installed heating elements meant for a snowmobile ($25)right over top of my OEM Yamaha grips. These elements have the same power (heat) capability for each grip. This is correct since the heating elements will both be installed over the OEM rubber grips which are insulators. I then covered the heating elements with Grip Puppies (using dish detergent and water to slid the GPs on and dried them off. The setup works perfectly. I did replace the GPs after 2 years as they tend to thin out.

The heating elements have a high and low temp grid. I wired only the high temp side and controlled it with a "chopper" type controller which does not dump energy into a resistor, thereby saving the precious electrical capacity of the FJR. The chopper controller cost me $40. So for a total of less than $100, you will have a variable temp heated grips that will provide a lot of heat with minimal installation difficulty.

I guess if you plan on riding in temps down to below 32 F, you may want to wire both heating elements in parallel. The chopper that I used had plenty of capacity to do that.

Here is a current source for the heating elements:

Note: these say not for motorcycle usage, BUT this admonition is only applicable if the heating elements are applied UNDER OEM grips. This will result in one element applied to the nylon throttle tube and the other to the aluminum handle bar, thereby requiring very different power levels for the same temperature. If applied over the OEM grips, which will act thermal insulators, identical heating elements should be used on each grip.

and the controller with 48 watt capacity:

I have the exact same set up, Oxford heated grips with Grip Puppies and they work together perfectly.
