First thought I would take the opportunity to introduce myself. I just became the proud owner of a new 05 FJR. I had a VStar 1100 previously and owned it for 5 years.

I was a member of the ISRA for most of that time.

I sold my VStar and Raptor 350 for the FJR and I absolutely love it.

A few of the reasons I changed to the FJR were that I wanted more power and even though I have done engine work and such on the VStar and had about 72 hp out of a 50 hp motor it was nothing like the FJR. The wind was also a factor while I could have put a windshield on it wouldn't have cured the wind on the legs trying to make me do the splits or the fact that the wind tossed the vstar around terribly compared to a sport bike. Plus I like the fact that it is so easy to keep clean as the chrome and spoke wheels were a nightmare to keep clean.

A few of the problems for me with the FJR I knew going in but knew I could easily "fix". I already have 1" risers on it and have foam rubber grips that should be here today. The seat though is another matter. I guess I am one of the lucky ones that find this seat unbareable. After about 15 minutes all I can think about is my a**. I have plans of getting the Russell day-long and as soon as my wife gives the ok they will have my business. The heat doesn't bother me at all and maybe that is because I have always ridden air cooled vtwins that are plenty hot on their own.

Anyway to my question: Where on this forum can I find group riding clubs that are close to the Frederick Maryland area?

Thanks,

Gene

Another Forum quite a few FJR owners hang out on is st.n (google)

sport-touring dot net. They have listing by Region. TJ

Gene:

No reason to go far for this. Call the local Yamaha Star Touring and Riding Chapter in Frederick, MD. Here's the contact information:

I'm the President of my Chapter here in San Diego and you'll find a lot of nice folks in a Chapter. It's open to all types of bikes, the only requirement is that you join Star. There are more than a few of us that participate with our FJR's, hell, I'm leading about 30 cruisers around on our chapter rides each month. Yes, I get lots of comments about slowing down  .

You're probably going to have to check the Northeast and South pages. Just go in and post that you want to ride...someone will respond about the next planned get-together.

Out here on the Left Coast, someone is always going someplace different for lunch...100-200 miles away or better! ;)

@sparky,

Welcome! You'll love the FJR. I'm not too far away (Crownsville MD, near Annapolis). Perhaps we can hook up for a ride.

Hey, didn't mean to seem like I was ignoring anyone. I am new to this forum and use to the email notification being automatic on the delphi forum. I just now today realized I have to check it at the bottom before each post.

Anyway thanks for the replies.

RickL would like to get together sometime but right now the thought of going more than 40 or 50 miles is painful.

Once I get my new sargent seat in maybe riding out towards anapolis would be nice...
