Yea no doubt if I were the do-rag or brain bucket wearing type my face would haev been history. I also found more damage on the front of my jacket. So apparently, I slid on my belly for a moment (which I don't remember).

Feeling a lot better today. Slight soreness in my right shoulder, upper left leg and the rash on my knee's is still letting me know it's there. Otherwise I'm pretty much back to normal. Now I'm chomping at the bit to get things rolling on the bike.

That Helmet deserves an honored place within your house... or garage. It truly saved you and your head from a whole lot of damage.

Glad to hear you're coming along physically, and that the damage to the bike doesn't seem too extensive.

Glad to hear you're alright!! From the pics it doesn't look as bad as it sounded in your initial post. Maybe a little buffing and some touch up paint.... :D

And..maybe with a little "pain and suffering" tacked on to the bill you might be able to get some frame sliders??? Those might have saved some of your plastic. (this from the guy who doesn't have any frame sliders on HIS bike either...)

Messes up any plans for gettin together for a ride this weekend though. ;)

seriously, though...glad you're doin OK....

Ray

Groo - Helmet will get a permenent spot on the garage wall. No doubt I'm in much better condition because of it.

Ray - yea, a ride is definitly out this weekend, lol. I was looking to get some sliders, now I think I might pick them up and have the dealer put them on while repairs are being made.

Body pain is almost gone. Toes are still a nice shade of purple, but it's fading. Only things still really hurting is the road rash dispite constant cleaning out and ointment treatments. Small price to pay for walking away form all that though.

Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad that the damage isn't TOO bad. I can empathize with seeing the driver as your grandfather. Some years ago, I was rear-ended, hard enough to total my F150, by a 16yr old boy. I was mad, but the fight was all taken out of me when I saw the boy fighting back tears. My own son was just a couple of years younger.

Wishing you fast repairs, to the body and the bike.

Jill

Glad to hear your mending well. I'm sure your bike will mend under the expert care of the mechanics as well.

thx Jill & Fuzzy. Looking forward to getting back on the FJR and putting this whole thing behind me. :)

So here we are a little more then a month later and I have an update. I still don't have my FJR bac, but I do have an update.

I've been fighting my own insurance company about the check for fixing the bike since about a week after the accident. Well, I finally got it on Tuesday (Spet, 18). Deposited the check yesterday and shot up to the dealer today on my way home. I also had with me a replacement windscreen that I orderd out of my own pocket while waiting on the surance company. Get to the dealer only to find yet another setback. They put my bike back up on the lift today as something kept nagging at one of the mechanics. Upon very close inspection, they found a small crack in the swingarm hiding in the shadows. So, they ordered a new swingarm which is backordered till the 8th of October. They also called the adjuster that is handeling my case and got him back out today as well to do up the suplimental. The service writer was just about to call and let me know all the details when I walked in.

So, accident in Mid August, bike hosed till mid October, damnit this sucks.

Reguardless, I can't thanks the folks at Bartow Power Sports enough. They have continued to go over my bike several times since they have had it to make sure they arn't missing anything. This time is really paid off. It also brings the total damage to my bike to $3758.00. The swing arm being the only strutural part of the bike damaged. I couldn't get pics of the crack, but at this point, I don't care, just want the bike back at 100%. Was sad seeing her all torn down though. :(

Now I just have to order the new set of holeshots and wait for the suplimental check to come in. Hope I don't have the threaten legal action to get the check like I did last time.

Damn, that sounds like on top flight mechanic: "They put my bike back up on the lift today as something kept nagging at one of the mechanics. Upon very close inspection, they found a small crack in the swingarm hiding in the shadows."

Not only does he "feel" or intuit or suspect or recognize a problem, but he goes back to work until he finds it!

You are blessed, my son.

I just found this thread. You get props for keeping it under control on the scene. Oblivious drivers push all my buttons. Most of my thoughts on the subject are completely wasted on my full face helmet, though. Glad you're alright.

Sux about the bike, though. In a situation like yours, I'd prolly demand a rental bike until mine were fixed.

I just found this thread.
Same here. So glad the gear took most of the abuse. After reading most of this entire thread, don't forget to order those new cans or any other new farkle you can think of. We just lost a local here with massive head trauma due to no helmet. They said he probably wouldn't have made it with one, but at least he would have had a chance. Looks like your helmet saved your life.

Glad they are doing a good job fixing your bike but damn, we got riding to do!!!

Talk to you soon.

JW

Thx again for the replies folks. If I misspell everything or don't make any sence, I've been up since 8am Thursday, haven't slept and aside from my trip to the dealer, I've been at work all this time and am still at work now.

Helmet has already been replaced. My wife bought me a Scorpion Exo-700 "crackhead" in blue for my birthday. Awesome helmet, can't wait to try it out. The rest of the gear is waiting on the insurance co. to settle on my old gear first.

I definitly like the mechanic that is working on my bike. He has spent a fair ammount of time letting me know what all he has checked and how he would like ot handle all the issues. I have no complaints, the man certainly seems to know what he's doing.

ATGATT is no joke, I don't mess around. I would prollie still be very messed up had I not had it on.

At any rate, I'll post again once I have some more info.

Man, it's a good thing they found the cracked swing arm... that could've been bad. As far as waiting, I feel your pain. I hit a deer (details in this post) August 13th... should be getting the bike back Monday (Sept. 24th). Damage was $5,700. I'm climbing the freekin' walls.

man that does suck. I've been tempted to ride my wifes SV650 a few times. I gave in once, bit it just wasn't the same, was a decent fix though. if you have no other scoot to get ya through, that has to be rough in deed. GL on getting you bike back on Monday..

I'd offer to let you ride mine, but your track record lately is, well....

Sorry, couldn't resist!
