ready to go out for a ride today and the bike would not start at first . 10 turns of the engine and not firing . error code #19 . Turned it off and back on 1 touch of the starter and she fired right up . Had this happen one time before about 3 mths. ago . any ideas guys . And i dont know why a call the bike a she .

error code #19? I haven't heard of that one. If it was #16 it's the throttle position sensor stuck.

Hey Zork., error code 19: "Open circuit in the input line from the sidestand switch to the ECU is detected when the start switch is pressed"....proboble cause:A- "Open or short circuit in wiring harness., B- Malfunction in the ECU". All this courtesy of the factory shop manual....bets on the sidestand switch! Good luck with it Zorkler! :assasin:

It's dirty contacts in the ignition switch.

The switch actually has 2 sets of contacts -- the main, high-current contacts and the set that supplies power to the sidestand switch. If that set gets dirty then the ECU can't read the position of the sidestand and sets the error code suggesting the problem is in the sidestand switch itself.

Remove the upper triple tree and invert so you can access the underside of the ignition switch. You will find some drain holes in there suitable for the application of contact cleaner spray (using one of those tiny red tubes that is attached to the can in the store and is lost by the time you get it home). Give it a good spray and work the key back and forth multiple times. Then reassemble.

Hello All..

Long time lurker here.

Ive been experiencing this same problem alot recently on my 05. First time it happened was back in October. Now since december its been close to everyday until i finally figured out a way to get past it. I noticed that when fjr starts cold in the morning and i wait until 2 bars to leave, it cuts off right when i get on. Code 19 appears. Now this is the weird part. All i do is wait 5 mins and fjr starts right up. Now if i get goin right when 2 bars appears and ride for more than 10 mins, shut it off, fjr starts right back up, but if i shut it off before 10 mins "surprise!! error 19 rears its ugly head. Morning temps are around 30 to 40.

Now i didnt try to clean out the ignition switch yet cause it seems to me to be some kinda signal dealin with either heat or idle. But what do i know, its just irritating. inna a few days I'll do the ignition cleaning and see what happens.

Has anyone else come across this problem?
