Thinking he was in the line of destruction from Sandy. Pretty sure he's in Sag Harbor.. or near there. Anyone heard from him? Pretty sure that's his username... or very close to that.

I've wondered about Chris for about the last week now. Hope he is well and far enough inland. Anybody heard?

Before the storm hit, I was wondering how bad he was "gonna get it"...out on that overgrown sandbar they call Long Island. Some of those ground elevations in Sag Harbor don't appear to be too much higher than the mean sea level.

Jordan's Bridge.

Post up Chris..if you see this thread.

Maybe one of the easterners that hang out with Chris can give an update...

I don't think he's actually inland at all. Mark, you've been to his place, haven't you?

Yes, I've been to his place. He's in Sag Harbor, L. I.

No place on Long Island is well elevated above sea level. I haven't heard how much flooding there was...I only hear on the news about New Jersey...so maybe the Island made out okay?

Sag Harbor is on the lee side of the Island, but quite a ways out. IIRC East Hampton, which is the other side of the spit was hit pretty hard.

I certainly hope that he fared well.

My 26 yr old niece lives in Astoria (Queens) right next to the start of Long Guyland.

She was hearing right when the storm hit there was to be a rush of water coming up the East River and a back flush down from the Sound. It may have happened but not as bad as they thought, she said her area is not all that bad compared to what she see's on the news.

Yes, Staten Island got washed big time and of course J/Shore. Sag Harbor (been there also) is kinda inside a bay way out on the end of the island, it's actually protected somewhat from the initial surge (front) of the storm. And if that big "backwash" didn't take place as bad as they thought? Sag-H may be alright (not sure anyplace near Sandy's reach can be deemed alright however).

Wishing you the best Chris, Chime in!

Good timing for this thread, Heidi. Sooze and I were talking Axe the other day, hoping that he's OK.

Chris? Can ya hear us, buddy??

Chris let Michele sit on an Oldwing and they have been Oldwinging ever after. He was supposed to make Nerds this fall but other things seem to have come up. The line of work Chris is in may have him really busy working on some of the really nice properties in the area due to storm damage.

I am not ever letting the wife sit on a goldwing. I know what would happen next.

Nope, Not Never! :p

Take care Chris, I hope all is well.

Chris is a lucky ******* - he was on vacation on a Caribean cruise, so he missed the hurricane Sandy frankenstorm aftermath and the Nor'Easter 9 days later. I think he's back today. I don't think he sustained any damage. Sag Harbor had some flooding, trees down and loss of power, but not nearly as much damage as further west on the Island. I'm lucky as well - I live 40 miles east of NYC - Sag Harbor is 70 miles further east. Sandy hit us on the 29th. Within 100 yards of my house, 18 massive, healthy trees came down (8 on our property, though 4 of those came from the neighbor's yard). None on the house. We were in the 10% of households on L.I. that didn't lose power (over 1M households knocked out) and we only sustained minor damage (fences crushed by trees). A colleague had his first floor and 3 cars flooded with saltwater - he lives in a FEMA floodplain. First time I've seen gasoline rationing since 1975? National Guard were posted at traffic lights (to guard portable generators powering the lights). The company I work for employs ~2500 in 5 buildings of manufacturing, R&D and offices - closed for lack of power for the entire week. To add insult to injury, on the 7th, the Nor'Easter hit and dropped 5" of heavy wet snow on the western half of the Island (Sag Harbor got none). Some folks lost power for a second time. I lost 5 more trees, though they were smaller, crappy. I'm not close to the shore, but the neighborhood just behind my property just got their power back 2 days ago on the 12th. It was a ton of inconvenience (and chainsawing), but like I said, we were very lucky this time.

Hey, I've got two of those Stihl topboxes!! -- one for the workhorse 026 Pro, and one for the 020T arbor saw. I'm a big fan of Stihl power tools, with a backpack leaf blower and a weed eater to round out the pack.

Glad to see you escaped most of the damage. Looks like I'm a little further along on this season's firewood cutting than you are, though. :)

Thank you for the update Havoc... mucho appreciation. Having been through a fairly severe hurricane but not nearly as bad as yours... I can feel for ya' when griping about the cleanup & inconvenience.

I'm glad you made it through.

For use on the bike, I like the hi-viz orange color too! I've been a Stihl fan since I did an internship with the West German Forest Service in 1976. I have a 250C with the Easy2Start and wrenchless chain tension adjuster - both features work excellent going on 5 years and 3 hurricanes now! I have no motivation on firewood - nothing official to burn it in yet - but with all this dead wood laying around, I may need to re-think that.

Re hurricanes - they happen around here. I suppose if I get tired of them, I can move to tornado country, avalanche country, earthquake country. I tried to imbed a video of our trailbikes traversing one of the downed trees, but I couldn't get it to work.
