Has anyone thought of an AE auto-downshift mod?

Next week I will fly out and ride back my new-to-me 09AE. I hope that my question will not seem silly once I am actually experienced with exactly how the AE operates. Since the logic exists to flash the gear indicator when a downshift is needed, I wonder if that same logic could be used to actuate the shift. I would be interested in trying such a mod. Any ideas?

It's there, if you need desperately to downshift, the gear indicator will flash the number at you. But you'll have figured out well before that that you need to downshift. It feels just like a regular bike, you know when to upshift or downshift just as if you had a standard clutch.

It is not an automatic. It is an electronic clutch. If figuring out when to shift, or using your foot/finger to accomplish shift is too much, Honda makes a very nice Civic...Oh, and some CVT bikes.

Just asking out of intrigue and in the interest of the convenience, wise guys. I understand that the current non-US AS version does it for you.

Wise guys? Really? You only got two responses here, and these guys are just the sweet little door greeters who happened to notice your post. The big dogs are busy ridin' at the moment. Hopefully the real "wise guys" can weigh in and give ya something to grunt about...

By the way, No Rain, welcome to the forum. You're gonna love that new FJR. Looking forward to hearin' what cha think. Hope ya have some decent weather coming back home. Haa-- pray for "no rain," and no snow (while yer at it). Hate to see one of those occasional unexpected winter storms blow in on ya. Ride safe and keep us posted. Remember that all vengeful wisecracks (should the need arise) are welcome.

Thanks Gary. The weather looks good so far. I might get wet in the final two hours. I ride year round as long as the roads are clear of ice, and that is all but certain next week. Contrary to the impression I seem to have given with my post, I have ridden many years and have owned a variety of bikes. My bike of the last four years which I am now selling is a 07 DL1000.

Warning: due to the addictive nature of the FJR, beware my friend. You might find yourself deciding to ride under REALLY questionable road conditions... just to scratch your newly acquired FJR itch. Remember to use your experience and just say NO to that black temptress callin' yer name. FJR's are addictive and therefore dangerous during inclement weather.

On the Euro spec 2014 Gen III, when it's come to rest, you can set its computer to find first gear. Other than that, it's all down to the rider's finger or foot.
From their web site:

And a new 'Stop Mode' automatically downshifts to 1st gear when you stop.

Welcome No Rain.

Once you get use to it, you're going to absolutely love the AE. As said, you still have to up and downshift but it's very qwik n slick :)

Enjoy and ride safe!

AE tip: Don't bother reaching under the horn button to downshift. Flick the forefinger lever forward to downshift, and pull it back to upshift. The amount of hand movement to reach the lever below the horn button is ridiculous.

Excellent tip. Use only left forefinger for up and down flips :)

Thanks guys. I have read extensively on the system, but of course there is no substitute for the actual experience. Have electric shift and go-cruise, will travel.
