Has Yamaha fixed ticking in production bikes?

Has Yamaha fixed the ticking issue in production bikes? If so, when?

I'm thinking about picking up a used 2005 FJR1300 (with ABS) that at least for the moment does not appear to have the ticking issue. I read on a forum that at least one knowledgable rider figured Yamaha had fixed the issue in production bikes around mid 2005. Does anyone know any more about this? And (I know I'm reaching) but is there any way if I might find out (by VIN?) whether any 2005 I'm looking at was made AFTER this production fix? Thanks!

Unknown as of yet. We will have to wait to see how the 06 FJRs fare. There was no solution to the tick for 2005 models. There is the approximate 7% chance that a 2005 FJR will develop into a "ticker". If so, Yammie fixes under warranty. All info you read about the tick is conjecture, guessing, theorizing. Though some of it can be fairly accurate. Yammie has never really officially released any info about the tick, or bad valve guides.

There is a wealth of information on this forum regarding this topic. Use the search feature with words like "ticking", or "tick", or "valve guides", and you will have plenty of reading to do.

I have an 05 06/04 pro date, its ticking. 11.5 k just started not long ago. So I say its not fixed yet. 1st derivery run delivered 09/04.

Waiting to see if 06 are better.

My o5 is currently in for the "tick" repair, the 06 bikes will surely have the updated

valve seal, if that is the fix there should be no worries for any waiters, for everyone else..... :blink:

The 06 exhaust valves are shorter, much shorter than before. Some speculate that this will fix the exhaust guide ticking problem encountered by some bikes.

Maybe the answers to your questions are "maybe" and "if so 2006"
