So I see an article on CNN about how Hawaii is suffering due to the economy with the largest drop in tourists since the depression. I ask my wife if she wants to take the kids. Her response was, "Tickets will still be outrageously priced." I go online, I got tickets for $244 (with taxes, $286). Then I go to check out hotels. Again, holy cow are they cheap. I got a 1 bedroom suite at Embassy Suites for $170/night on Waikiki Beach. Comes with full made-to-order breakfast too! Got a convertible rental car for $24/day.

Total trip not including food, $2500 for family of 4 for 7 nights. To me, that's just incredible! Especially considering the last time I looked into doing a trip like this, airfare alone was over $2000 for the 4 of us.

That is awesome dude!

Can I be your ******* stepchild for the trip? Huh? Can I? Can I?

The only times I have been to Hawaii was on the U.S. Navy's dime. Unfortunately they were just some short layovers on the way to some other foreign shore. Still, what a great place. Be sure to head to the north shore, and Waiemeia (sp?) Bay.

Bet he'd get a discount for taking yer "special: *** along

:jester:

Thats a good use for the tax dolars. You and the family have a great time and bring home treats for the rest of us. :yahoo:

Take the Kamehameha hiway west out of Waikiki and around diamond head, eventually up to the north shore. Eat at Breakers. Have the ribeye.

I was there for a week in '05 over the Holidays. Cost more for just myself.

May I recommend Paradise Motorcycle Rentals in Honolulu 808-924-2222.

A buddy and I rented CBR600rr's on Christmas day. We called on Christmas eve and they opened in the morning just for us to pick up the bikes. They even sent a limo to pick us up at our hotel !

We had the whole island to ourselves all day.

Have fun

and be safe

Tim

Sounds great!

A beach-front hotel at that price is fantastic! Too bad I can't ride a motorcycle there.

A buddy and I are trying to plan a week of riding in Germany. It will be more to rent the bikes than the airfare. Crazy times. I got a one way flight from Peoria, IL. to Orlando, FL. for $29. My Dad was there already (he's retired and goes for a few months) to pick me up at the airport and drive me back home. Stayed with friends, so no motel bill. I got to lay on a beach for less than a tank of gas. Gotta love it. Have a good time in our Island state.

not to bust your bubble but its always cheaper to go to oahu, try going to kuai.freaking flights are insane, aloha.
No bubble burst at all. We have a day planned on the Big Island where airfare and rental car are only $60 per person round trip so we can go see the volcanoes. My kids are 13 and 10 and have never been to Hawaii. My wife went to school there and wants to show the kids where she lived. Plus, I don't think they'd know the difference between the islands or even know what Oahu or Kauai are, they only care that they are in Hawaii. For that matter, I don't care that much either. It isn't cold, rainy Portland and that's all that really matters.

If I went to Hawaii a bunch of times, I'd probably start caring. But for now, just call me a novice tourist and I'm fine with that! Also, if it was just the wife and I, we'd do it differently too.

MUST DO on Oahu: Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. Aloha! :coolsmiley03:

I was just there a few weeks ago. Garlic shrimp on the North Shore is killer. Have fun.

Hey, wait a freakin' minute here..

there's not enough tickets, come on DAD, you know I love ya man! Ain't I a part of the whole fam-damily?

Way cool....say Hi to my kids for me...Chris is up at the University of Hawaii, he'll be in one of the music dept practice rooms, he plays the trumpet.

If your kids were older I'm say go to.....

Mike works there after the show, he dj's sometimes...

Have fun! And try some of the local Chinese restaurants... get out of Waikiki...too expensive, except for the morning brunch at the hotels.

Ask the locals where to go for good food!

And drag your kids out to the Polynesian Cultural Center. all day, good shows, good fun, they'll like it, and so will you. even the Luau is good. Bring jackets, the wind off the north shore can get chilly at night.... and take lots of pics...
