I am looking for a headlight to fit a early 80s Honda. A OEM bulb is 52.00. I have found a couple on Ebay that take a H4 bulb but don't have the right mounts to fit the Honda housing and I don't want to change the whole thing because the current housing has all the electrical conections inside. Anybody run across this problem???

You're looking for a complete housing? Or a headlamp bulb?

I bought an H-4 for my XS1100 and it fit in the OEM housing. linky

In fact, I moved it to the Windjammer when I added the fairing.

The way this old Honda works it the headlight bulb is like a sealed beam from a car but it also has two mounting ears and the adjuster built right into the sealed beam. It isn't a true sealed beam in that the bulb is sealed and the lense is crimped permanently into the housing. Stupid design.

Aha...now I see, said the blind man.

Is there any way to harvest a complete headlight bucket/housing from another UJM (motorcycle wrecking yard...besides FJRay's shop) and mount it inside the Honda housing. My XS (and others) have a chrome headlamp assembly and I was thinking you could "gut" one and rivet or weld the mounting hardware w/ the adjuster inside the Honda "shell".

That's probably more work than you want to do so I hope someone has an easier solution.

Found one on ebay that may be close. Its out of a 79 and I am dealing with a 81. In the pictures it looks good just got to win the auction and get it here to see. 20.00 is better than 52.00.

I may have what you're looking for.

OEM headlight from a '78 CL360, Stanley HM-23M-S (embossed "SAE M 71 Stanley 001-1012" on glass)

It's about 6 1/2" in Dia.

I replaced it w/ an H4 halogen in the '80s for better illumination.

Don't remember where I saw it but there is a headlight adapter ring to convert your Honda to an H4 bulb.

Keep looking
