Headlight Condensation – In my newest FJR 2006 I notice that now that winter started the bottom of the headlights are sometimes foggy. It happens also when is not raining and heavy rain doesn’t mean more condensation.

It never happens in my or my friend’s 03 to 05 model and I already saw it happening in more other 06's. Not as much as mine but still…

Didn’t find any correlation between rain and condensation. Neither when I’m washing it.

Is it normal?

Not if your headlights seals are intact and in place. Have you checked both the outer seal and the inner one where the bulb inserts?

And make sure the drains are working. They're the little flexible rubber dangly things that will open when squeezed. If they are stuck shut then no moisture can drain out.

+1 on condensation for an '06. The only change I am aware of in the headlight area for the '06's is the remote adjustability. Any other differences?

The exact condensation happened to me at about 2600 miles. It is NOT normal. I brought it back to the dealer, it was replaced (under warranty). Do not put up with it. I ride my bike every day, rain or shine. It should perform perfectly everytime, I say.

I sent the pictures to the dealer and few days after they confirmed that Yamaha accept to replace the optics under the warranty.

Hopefully next ones are Ok because it looks that is one problem affecting more 06 models.

Having worked in the lighting industry over 37 years, I assure you that there is no such thing as "condensation" in a luminaire. Simply said, if you have water in there, you have a leak that's letting water in. The only way it'll go away is to stop the leak!

Grumpy Jim must know what he's talking about, he called it a 'luminaire'. :D :D

Hi Grumpy

Yesterday weather was just great here in Portugal , sunny, dry, around 80’s

I drove about 130 miles and a very very small condensation was visible again on the bottom of each optic.

If isn’t condensation because no water was in there what can it be ?

Later after wash the motorcycle, the optics became again foggy for an hour or so.

I’m ok because Yamaha confirmed that will replace the optics but, it looks that is a problems that affects only the new 06 model.
