Is there a write-up or can anyone tell me how the get the frickin' headlight cowling removed. I've got the four plastic panels, lower fairing, windshield and bracket removed, along with several screws.

But there is one screw in the center of the cowling, just under the Yamaha logo that is not accessable by human hands. There has got to be an easier way to remove this assembly.

Besides the factory manual? My memory was that I was able to reach all the hex heads with a 4" socket extension or no extension.

I found it fairly easy to disassemble mine last year using just the blow-up diagrams from the Yamaha parts fiche. I disassembled mine one piece at a time until only the main bracket (stay) with the windshield motor and gauges were attached, then I removed the main bracket.

Seems like you could just disconnect the lower fairings and inner panels, remove the windshield and brackets, disconnect the electrical harness and remove the main bracket bolts and the whole thing would then come off. I personally have not removed it that way, but maybe others have.......anyone?.....anyone?......Bueller?

I pulled all the panels apart then had to pull the headlights to get that last screw out for the center panel.

When I put it back together I assembled it all then just put it back on the bike as one assembly- that way you only have 4 easy to get to screws!

Finally found the other two screws holding the headlight nacelle to the frame. Once I removed those the entire assembly came off and then I was able to removed the center screw. I was under the impression I had to remove the plastic first and then the headlight assembly. :fool: Too many farlkes had cluttered up the front with the heat trollers bundled on the left and the fuse box on the right side.

Thanks for showing restraint and not harassing me about this....so I'll say it...*******!

Remind me not to let twowheelnut work on my ride.

stryg8r,

I agree that Yama Momma screwed up with that last screw of the center front fairing.

I looked at it long & hard To try to figure out a modification that would change that screw to be removeable from the front & covered by the Yamaha emblem.

That would give easy access to locate additional relays & fuse blocks there.

I can dream, can't I?
