Helmet Assisted Radar Detector

Hello Friends,I came across this product while looking into Radar Detectors on the CycleGadget site( no affiliation) & it looked like a very stealthy sort of

devise. I contacted them to ask a few questions,like what size the receiver was & how was it secured in the helmet. They said that the module was 1 1/4 " x

2" x 1/2". They suggested that the module could be fitted under a cheek pad. I was wondering ,with a well fitting helmet how that would feel/work for an

extended time ? Has anyone used this product & what has your experience been with it ? Happy ? Would you suggest purchase ? Thanks in advance. Sliick2

I think adding anything hard to the inside of your helmet is idiotic. Cheek pads are "pads" for a reason.

Considering how much tupperware the FJR has on it, seems to me hiding a radar detector is not really a problem.

(guessing that the things work when "hidden" as I don't have one)

I just purchased the H.A.R.D. and have a friend who really likes his. The receiver can also be installed on the outside of the helmet using the supplied velcro. If used inside the helmet, it is placed inside the cheek pad between the soft and harder styrofoam padding (not between the cheek pad and the inside of the helmet but inside the cheek pad assembly).

It's only about a half and inch wide so it should fit nicely into the cheek pad.

Thanks Fella's for your input. I'm not sure if Knifemaker was familiar with this product-in that the receiver /LED is supposed to be visable in the periferral veiw. This is so you don't have to be looking down to your detector itself. I fully understand your point of veiw-and you are correct.

with the radar detector & Skyways mount. Use that for a bit & see if the H.A.R.D. devise is really needed. Thanks again for your help!! Sliick2

I pipe the audio from my Escort 8500 into my helmet via the Autocom, which is plenty of input for my situation, without batteries to change and lumps of hard plastic inside my helmet padding.

Anyway, here is what what it looks like installed. I mounted it on the side of the helmet for easy access to the power switch.

The LED is bright and powerful and is easily seen in your peripheral vision.

Have you tried the Visual Alert, I've been using this for about a year now, and it works well.

I used the H.A.R.D. system for about 6 months last summer. Overall I liked it. Small, fit nicely into the helmet, easy to see and worked well with my V1. However, my Garmin 2610 would periodically wig out. Loose the sat signal or begin giving strange readings like speeds of 310 mph. I know the FJR is fast but not that fast. After testing the GPS in my car where it worked fine I decided to remove the H.A.R.D. system to see if the transmitter was interfering with the GPS signal. I wired my V1 directly into helmet speakers and haven't had any problems since.

If someone on this forum has any thoughts about why my Garmin and H.A.R.D. systems couldn't play together I'd like to hear. If that problem could be solved I'd go back to the H.A.R.D. system.
