I removed the front wheel on my '05 ABS to install new tires (Pirelli Strada's...nice) but, after reassembly, the visible part of the silver collar seems wider than before. What is showing consists of the raised flange on the collar plus a portion of the narrower sleeve that is approximately 1.5X the width of the raised portion. Everything seems to be working fine, no binding or looseness, but it just doesn't look the same. Does this look right?

I put new tires on a few weeks ago and went thru this. I have photos (at home) of what it should look like - the manual also has a drawing of what it should look like. There is a mark as I recall that is indexed. I'll check when I get home to see if you got an answer and if not I'll post the pics.

If your rotors are spinning freely within the brake calipers, with the brake pads in place, then chances are everything is lined up.... it is important to make sure the ABS sensor gets lined up with the tab on the right fork... look at the FJRTech article for guidance.

DavidD...I just checked my own abs unit...your collar appears exactly like mine (and the factory service manual)! :assassin:

Thanks Shuswaper, I appreciate your taking the time to look. I guess I can forget about it now.

I should have read the post more carefully - I thought you were talking about the alignment of the ABS sensor. I had exactly the same concern as you about the space you are talking about. I usually take a picture of whatever I'm going to work on before I start so I can compare the before and after. I recall going back after getting the front wheel back on to confirm that the space was ok. It is!
