TOOK OFF LOWERS AND FOUND THE SPRING NUT ON A SHOULDER OF THE LOWERS... - thanks Iggy and Buster

Anybody up this morning?

I put the battery back in the bike and was fenagling fairing cover parts C & D together when I heard a piece of metal fall down  and I'm thinking THAT'S not a good sound!

I looked at the fairing pieces and it is the metal clip that enables the screw to tighten parts C & D together. I looked without pulling the lower cowling pieces off but could not locate it.

MY QUESTION: Are these parts easily available through our dealer friends or HARD to get?

In other words can I go out riding today and not worry about it or do I need to strip all the plastic off and find that bugger 'cuz I won't be able to buy another one?

Your help is appreciated...

stupid is as stupid does! D'oh!! :(

I'd be willing to bet you can get them at an auto parts store. I can't remember seeing a nut on them just stamped steel so I don't belive the metric treads will be a factor.

Just checked on one and yep it is a barrel type nut? But I bet you could use the stamped type w/out any real problems. I'd go that route first. You can bet the dealers will have them as techs aren't perfect either.

:jester:

NEVER MIND.... took off the lowers and found the clip.

Thanks bustanut for your reply.

Now to put the schtuff back on and do a ride. Rock River or west?

Perfect weather...sunny and hi 30's low 40's :D

It's called a Spring Nut and part that Yamaha carries. It's #56 on the Cowling 1 section of Sunnyside Motorsports and goes for about 2 bucks.

IF....one can get them at an autoparts store make sure they're metric and the same thread pitch. Man, I'd get the right one as that particular fastener is very critical to C & D mating properly.

Bigger worry to me is where the sucker went. Fair chance you pull off the lower cowling on that side and it will be at the bottom near the neaders. In fact, you might be able to look underneath to see if you see it.
