Hey Guys,

I had orginaly planned on a trip from my home town of Montgomery AL to Tampa Fl. It was to be my first long distance trip on any bike period. My father was to ride with my on his wing.

However, it looks like Tropical storm Dennis just ****** that up so..... :D

I need help planning my first trip.

Here are my conditions:

trip length Fri 7/9/05 to Mon 7/11/05

aprox 400 miles each way

would like to have some relaxing time (not just ride for 3 days)

curves and mountains preffered.

My idea is to take I-85 to Atlanta, then US19 towards Cherokee, NC, spend the night, and then spend about 5 hours riding the Blue Ridge Parkway, find a small town for some entertainment, and then ride back home on Monday.

Does this sound good, or is there a better place/ride I can take within my range?

James

Hi tsitlon,I've been up to BRP many times and just got back from a trip there. If you get to that area early enough get on the parkway and ride up to hiway 276 and take it west of the parkway about 5 miles and you'll see the blueridge motorcycle campground on the right across the pidgeon river. It's a very nice spot to stop for the night, they have small cabins for $40 a night and a kitchen pavillion and the food is good there.you can also pitch a tent if you like.there is a website just punch in blueridge motorcycle campground. When you pass mt.piscah about two or three miles up you'll see hiway 151 to the left. It's about 5 miles of twisties.Run it to the bottom and back up to the parkway it's worth the trip.Be careful there it's very tight and narrow but fun.there is a ROAD CLOSURE JUST PAST MT. MITCHELL.which is above ashville about 30 miles. you can get a free parkway map and detour around that spot.I'll post some other roads of interest later.

I suggest going west of Atlanta and riding hwy 2/52 from Chattsworth to Ellijay,GA.It is recently paved, very low traffic, great views and challenging to maintain 60 mph.

From there,go to Robinsville,NC over the Cherohala Skyway to Tellico Plains,TN. Take 360 over to 129 and take the Dragon back to Hwy 28 to 19 towards Cherokee and get on the Parkway there.

Ride to you heart's content.

Hwy 276 and 215 are really special going either north or south but both are better to the south- they both go to hwy 11 in SC so you can do both as a loop through Rosman and Brevard,NC.

Have fun but don't expect to see all the good roads in Western NC or TN or North GA in one trip.
