help with bike insurance claim

Last friday a coworker tried to back into a parking spot occupied by my bike. The Racing 905 crash bars and sliders protected my side case and front fairing, with the obvious damaged being the the mirror, bracket, handle bar end (no clutch lever), rear fender, and top case. Dealer has it now and the other driver had insurance. One area that I am concerned about though is damage to the front forks and head set as the front wheel was up against the curb when it was shoved up on the walk. Also the bike was only four months out of the show room and I expected to add on the YES extended warranty and I'm concerned now that the damage history could be a factor in securing the warranty. Any gotcha's or advice that you guys have experienced through the college of hard knocks that you could pass on to me would be appreciated.

Having worked before a major P&C carrier most claims adjusters are very good. If you have any receipts for accessories, labor supply those if asked. They should check the forks and frame of course and most bikes that have what appears to be minimal damage that are totaled it is due to that. Make sure your carrier knows also, even if the other party is the payee, they can and should act as your advocate. Assuming they clear it and a dealer shop does the repairs the warranty should not be effected.

Have the dealer fix the bike on the other guys insurance ticket.

Then buy the YES warranty from same dealer.

Yeah the sight just made me sick to my stomach, but having other bikes to ride really helps to take away the bite and frustration of the long wait for things to get resolved. There's a lot of ways this could have turned out worse.

I'd certainly insist on a rental until fixed...maybe a busa or ZX14 !!!

I trashed the whole front end of my bike including a brake disk when I hit a deer and it was less than 2 Clevelands.

Uh yes, late but good for future use..

Always back into a parking spot like that. If someone backs into your bike it won't knock it off the side or centerstand so easy.
