Consider these for the up coming SW-FOG, these are the roads Ii ride when I'm up in the area. I'll try to include points of intrest, but there are too many to list here. Sorry I can't do maps, maybe some body could help out. I use mapsonus.com for the milage.

The Enchanted Circle- 147 miles

From Taos, North to Questa, Then east to Red River(Texans Love this place, lots to do there), and Eagle Nest. Head South To angle Fire where the Vietnam Memorial is located, This is a must see. at this piont you can head back west to Taos through the mountian, or continue south through Black Lake to Mora. Here yuo head back north towards Taos through over the mountian, and will go by Sipapu ski area, where the BMW guys will be the weekend before, and on up to Taos 147 miles total

Chama Loop- 204 miles

From Taos head west to Tres Piedras NM, you will pass over the Rio Grande Gourge just outside of Taos (a nice place to watch the sunset for a short evening jaunt after dinner) From Tres Piedras continue west and intersect the hwy to Chama, Turn north to Chama NM. There is a Train ride there that goes to Antonito CO and back ( There is a really good place to eat and drink there "The High Country") Then go east to Antonito CO. Back south to Tres Piedras and east back to Taos. Part mountians and part high country plateau. 204 miles

Abiquiu Loop- 238 miles

Head south from Taos to Espanola NM, then west to Abiquiu NM Bode's a nice little store there where the artists hang out, from Abuquiu go north past Abiquiu resvior and the Famed Ghost Ranch, Georgia O'Keefs favorite hang out, then on up to Chama NM (Maybe lunch) the east to Antonito CO, South to Tres Piedras NM and back east to Taos 238 miles.

The Long Way Around- 388 miles

From Taos go west to Tres Piedras NM, then north to Antonito CO, west to Chama NM, South to Abiquiu NM, then turn west to Cuba NM, A really nice ride through here,A good Mexican resturant in Cuba is El Brunos "Esta Muy Caliente" then south to San Ysidro NM, here we turn back into the mountians through Jemez Spring NM, past the Valle Caldera to Los Alamos NM home of the A Bomb, head north to Espanola and continue north back to Taos. Many nicespots to stop and check out all through this ride.

Well thats some suggestions and these can be modified easily to include other areas in northern NM "El Nortenos" I know some of the local riders will add to this list, More then we can ride in a few days. Woo Hoo :yahoo:

Thank you very much Dave! pinhead I owe you a beer, or six, for creating these maps for our use! I don't care what Big-D says about you, you are Numero Uno in Papa Chuy's book!

If it's not too much trouble could you edit in the Hwy #'s / road names?
Try these. I think I got them right.

Ride 1

Ride 2

Ride 3

Ride 4

(I changed the ending on this one slightly.)

Nice! your small change runs us up the "Old High Road to Taos" I should have done that! I knew someone would pick me up, there are alot of changes that could be made to lenghten the first 3 rides

Oh Boy! Thanks for the maps.

I think I'd better get there a day earlier, guess I'd better talk to my **** head boss about this.

Yep I said I could go, see you guys Thursday about beer thirty :yahoo:

Another thought for a ride.

La Vita Pass Loop- 325 miles

From Taos, east to Angle Fire NM (Vietnam Memorial) to Eagle Nest NM (Eagle Nest Lake) the west across the mountian to Cimarron NM (Philmont boy Scout Ranch) the north to Raton NM past the Whittington NRA Center on the way. From Raton we slab it north over Raton Pass to Trinidad CO, *** change capital of the world, we call it "Trim my Dad" then up the slab to Walsenburg CO. Turn west Across La Vita Pass to Alamosa CO, then south to Antonito CO, continue south to Tres Piedras NM the east to Taos. 325 miles

I think I'd better get there a day earlier... see you guys Thursday WEDNESDAY about beer thirty :yahoo:
Fixed it for you. ;) See you then.
I wish, wasn't going to get there till Friday afternoon but added a day to my reservation. I plan to play in Colorado(141, 90, 550 etc) on the way there. Have to give my new GP Suspension a work out :coolsmiley02:

Ride 4
(I changed the ending on this one slightly.)
Has anyone ridden Rt 126 out of Cuba to Jemez Springs? I realize the middle section is mostly dirt but is it like a well graded dirt or more of a Forest Service fire trail? I've been back and fouth around 550/96/4 a lot in the last year hauling children to college and for work but I've always come by this road in the winter and I know that's a bad time to attemp it. So what's it like in September? KLR type stuff or FJR compatable?

Prolly FJR compatable if you don't try to haul ***. It is about half dirt...I think 13 miles of it, but I don't remember off the top of my head. Last ride Patch and I did in the area, we were gonna hit that road, but the FJR was clean and it had recently rained, so we didn't feel like being up to our ***** in mud and crashed bike. If it's dry, it should be fine.

There is a section of 126 where you go over the top, the big sandy climb, where it was pretty deep and loose two weeks ago, I barley got my TransAlp through it. And rain dosen't help it firm up much. I won't ride My FJR through there unless I feel like dropping it. :dribble: And there are sections of red clay, when they get a wet are impassable by 4 wheel drive trucks, and there is construction going on now as well. I just got back from fishing the Rio Del Las Vacas for 4 days, thats what was going on this last weekend.

And while I have your attention, what days are you planning rides for? I know Friday and Saturday for sure, but what about,Thursday? Sunday? We were planning on coming up Thursday afternoon, arriving around beer thirty. Should I be there Thursday morning?

Given that information, I wouldn't risk that road on an FJR. NM road crews are notoriously slow, and if the road is **** and deep sand now, it could be that way for a month.

I thought you were showing up a day early, but when I checked with Cheryl, your check-in date was the 16th. I'm showing up on Wednesday because I figure if I'm gonna get slapped around by a Pinhead, I want it to happen when no one else will witness it. You best call Cheryl and get this date straightened out pronto fella.

I think Cometman was supposed to show up a day early too!

All of the rides look good to me. I'm looking forward to this ride!!

I have one question; since Fairlaner won't be there, who is going to plot these routes out on Garmins Mapsource so we can load them on our GPS'. I bet BeemerDon will be glad to do it!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
