On a modified route 4 near Los Alamos, how is the section of route 4 the goes around Los Alamos instead of going 501/502 thru the Lab? On S&T it's tiny compared to 501/502. Is it paved? I believe it goes thru White Rock and Bandelier Nat'l Monument

That route is paved and is actually a better ride than riding 502 through LA. Most of it is really nice road. Take 4 through WhiteRock and Bandelier. You'll like it.

 
Great! Almost got it figured out. How about route 76 thru Rio Chiquito and Ojo Sarco? Too tight to make any headway on? We've ridden around this area a couple of years ago and I remember a really tight road with a lot of interesting roadside art along the way
