Well, we're off again. Hurricane Ike is coming for a visit. I'm never going to get any miles on this bike this summer. Evacuating this morning, and on our way North. Possible 20 foot storm surge in the Port Arthur-Beaumont area of S.E. TX. That means we could have as much 5 or 6 ft. of salt water in our house. Daughter's driving a truckload of personal belongs, wife's driving carload, I'm driving the FJR. Could be gone for weeks. Had to put a hold on delivery of my backrest from Garauld until we get back from evacuation. Will be ordering that ASAP. Hope everyone else in this area is leaving or if you're not move to high ground and take care. Looks like we'll be using that flood and wind storm damage insurance this time. See ya later.

Phantom, I wish you very much luck where this storm is concerned. On the news this morning they kept using the phrases catasrophic & history making. I'm praying for you folks.

Heidi

Good luck. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Good luck!

Be safe and be careful!

Glad you're able to save the FJR! Talk about any excuse to go for a ride...

When I first started reading, thought you were gonna have to leave the FJR. Good thing you have your priorities straight. Good luck, hope is not as bad as predicted.

Good luck. I hope you are able to return home quickly and that damage is minimal. Thoughts are with you.

Gotta go watch the news and see how Galveston made out. Our thoughts are with you and hope all is well when you return home. It's gonna be a bad season this year I'm afraid.

Good luck and stay safe. You all will be in our prayers...Catch up with us when its over..Let us know if you all are ok....BB

I've been in Milan, Italy for this whole nightmare, for work. My boss mentioned last Wednesday when I said I wanted to go home "oh, we'll probably just get a little rain". Jeez....

I'm off to Paris tonight, on to Atlanta/New Orleans tomorrow and then drive the rest of the way to Conroe. Hopefully the freeways will be open. IAH is closed until probably Tuesday, flights backed up for days into Houston. No trees down on the house but trees down everywhere else. The yard is a total mess as is most of the neighborhood. Thankfully everybody's OK at home, just a little stressed out.

One interesting thing was that I was watching a local Houston news station internet feed for the whole thing. Also watching the radar on weatherunderground. So when my wife lost power, I was able to keep her and the family updated on both the storm and news bullitens via cell phone and then land line. They lost power early on so were in the dark for many hours. They still are. The land line still works most of the time. Also, with the popularity of wireless home phones, they go out when you loose power. The old fashion plug-in phones with either push buttons or dials(!) are powered by the phone system so they usually work. Real strange (and stressfull) to be sitting in Milan giving my wife the local play by play with the weather. Couldn't have happened as long ago as just a few years.

Good luck. I need to check on my Sister over in Orange. They did okay through Rita, but this one sounds much worse.

I hope your sister is okay. Orange took a very bad hit on storm surge as did Bridge City. We are all okay here, back safe and sound. A little damage here, but nothing like the Port Bolivar area. Most of Chrsytal Beach and points west are now almost totally wiped out. Orange County was hit with what appears to be mostly storm surge and caused extreme damage. However, the beaches from Sabine Pass and points west were almost totally annihilated. Looks like an atomic bomb went off along to whole Southeast Texas coast. Galveston and Chambers counties will be a very long time in recovering. Texas just re-acquired ~ 200 ft + of coast line. I hope anyone here that had relatives and friends in these areas have found them to be safe. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and concerns. Now off to go outside and start the clean-up process. I hope this is the last one for a long time.
