Man I hope this works out well for you. The one experience I had dealing with an insurance company was not pleasant, made me appreciate lawyers!

Here's the deal. If it was me I'd: IGNORE THE BUS COMPANY"S INSURANCE COMPANY. FORGET MAKING A CLAIM WITH THEM. MAKE THE CLAIM WITH YOURS. THEY WILL PAY NOW.
I went directly to my agen (close friend of over 20 years) and he's the one thats dealing with the other company.

IMO, being out $200 for a few weeks is well worth not having to fight with the other insurance company and the delay in getting the bike fixed. Besides, your company may waive the deductible because the collision was not your fault. That saves them the trouble of getting it from thother company and then sending it to you later on.
Agreed. And yes, my agent did tell me that this is the way to go. He's trying to give them a chance to pay first, and if theres any problem, then my insurance will foot the bill and go from there.

As to the bus driver, the poor schmoe(sp?) made a mistake. We all have. He no doubt didn't try to hit your bike, wishes he hadn't and he hung around afterwards. Nothing to get upset about.
I can understand fully how he could have hit my bike, and even tho it was his mistake, I'm not really mad at the driver. However I'm of the mind that if I hadn't come up when I did, that he would have 'pretended' to leave a card on the bike, and left. Just glad I was in range of my Scorpio paging alarm.

Thanks for the good advise B)

Update:

Back on the 1st, I dropped my FJR off at my friendly local Yamaha shop for a crash estimate and the 4k service (1k late  ) and today I finally have the estimate in hand. Total bill is a whopping $3180.90  The forks are straight, but it seems the bus bent the triple tree somehow when it knocked the bike over.

Now the waiting game begins with the insurance company, trying to get them to release the cash to fix the bike. Shouldn't take to long tho since it's under my policy for now. My insurance did find me without fault for the accident, so that's a good thing. They'll take it to arbitration soon I'm sure. I do miss my FJR tho  and I'm reminded of it's absence every day as I walk past an ever growing pile of farkles. There's all kinds of nifties in the pile, Honda heated grips, tail light modulator, rack to mount my Givi V46 (from OHFJR, very nice quality BTW) Alex's reflective decals, and OHFJR's racing stripes.

Until I get my FJR back, I'm relegated to my lil Ninja 2 fiddy, but hell, it can be fun too B) Kinda nice to be able to bounce off the rev limiter in 3 gears and not get arrested :p

Well, at least you can save some gas riding the 250. There's always some issues with insurance people and who said what. As long as you are still in one piece, everything is good. I still think you should get some aftermarket cans since the one is damaged. When I had the insurance replace mine I spent $4 for Stainless Leo Vince Cans.

take the cash call university motors and buy the stuff at a 40 to 60 percent dicount let the dealer put it together and you will have a pocket full of cash left over

The difference in gas isn't that great actually, but hte preformanc difference is huge. You're not the first to mention I should get new cans, but to be honest, I kinda like the stealth rumble of the stock cans.

There will definatly be some change left over after repairs I think B)

I'll send you my address, ship the stuff my way and I will make sure it gets put to good use while you wait. I'll even throw in a pic of the stuff mounted.

Does anyone have a link to Alex's Reflective decals? I have never seen them before...

**** UPDATE ****

My FJR is FINALLY out of the shop! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: Looks great again! They did a great job, but it took almost 6 weeks in the shop to get the estimate done, and the insurance check in hand. There's gonna be a couple slightly rashed parts popping up in the for sale section later :p

Now I can start installing that ever growing pile of farkles :D

I do the Happy Dance

Very happy for you. Believe me, I know what waiting for an injured bike is like. Go and ride that pup!

Post pictures plz.

Since you asked so nicely, and since I've just finished my farkle fest :p

OHFJR racing stripes and tail rack installed. You can probably see I didn't replace the slider, just sanded it out. I may replace it later for cosmetic reasons. Everything else has been replaced, including the muffler. Turns out the insurance saw 'recycle value' in the muffler and wanted the old one shipped to them. And after hearing Fairlaner's Holeshot mufflers live and in person, I opted to go stock instead of slip ons. I defiantly prefer the stealth approach.

Alex's reflective decals on the bags (Glad I hadn't gotten around to installing them before the accident)

Givi E250 mount, waiting for the V46 with color matched lit to get ordered sometime this or next month

Honda heated grips installed too. Works well with a Throttlemeister.

Last pic, whats the remote control looking doo-dad on the left handlebar, and what is mounted on?

It's a Airclick remote for my iPod. When I ride distance my iPod is in my breast pocket of my 'stitch with earbuds. The Airclick allows me to do anything the click wheel will do, including volume up/down B) It's mounted to the mirror hole on a custom mount that I made out of .062 brass to hold the Airclick universal mount. That allows me to remove the remote when I feel the need. Since I made that mount I've broken the clip on the remote, so now the remote is permanently mounted with servo tape  The spring clip above it is for bridge tolls and uses the same mounting bolt.

In your last photo what is the flush mounted item just below the glove compartment with the right and left colored arrows? On my 06 it is the heated grips.... :pardon:

Same. Its the heated grip controler. I installed Honda grips rather than Yamaha grips and saved about $300. Plus a nicer looking control unit B)

Two suggestions:
1. If you can, have some of these FJR nutballs inspect your bike. They're much more knowledgeable than most dealer personnell. Seriously, they will see things in a thorough going over that the hurry up and fix it dealer won't.

2. Forget the bus's insurance carrier or, if it is self-insured, the transit district's claims process. They are even less your friends than your own insurance company. Once you have a confrident handle on the extent of damage, settle with your insuance carrier (assuming you have collision coverage) and let it go after the bus's carrier. Not having to go through the adversarial PITA with the bus's claims people is worth being out the deductible amount for awhile - which your own insurance carrier will get back for you as part of the process.

Bill
Definately an AMEN on part two Bill. Our area transit is self insured and getting a penny out of them is impossible even if they are wrong. It really stinks.

Hey, Senor Silent,

Glad you finally got her back, and are riding her again

Looks good !!

And those Honda grips are the snizzle !!
