Yes, I know this was from AmsOil's site and they "won" the competition, but I found this read interesting.

The interesting thing is that Yamalube, although the 10w-50 version and not the recommended 20w-40 version, scores pretty terribly in this study.

Thoughts? Jestal still around to read and tear in to this?

If anything, it does seem to point out much of the reasons that many have given as to why you should use moto-specific oil and not cage oil.

This probably should/will end up in the NERPT section... or will this end the discussions once and for all? Pfft... yeah, right.

Right, but you said which one could he kick more easily. If it were say a thinner weight level for Amsoil and a thicker weight for YammiLube, then it might be slightly tougher.

I'm not buying anything Amsoil is selling. Amsoil, it appears to me, is Tupperware/Avon for dudes.

I'm not trusting any lubricant for that many miles in a high compression engine.

I trust what Jestal had to say about the diesel oils: they don't have the anti-friction components that will affect your clutch, they have extra wear protection for diesels, and they're cheap.

I change every 2500 to 3000 miles.

More importantly: Would Chuck Norris kick Amsoil's ass more easily than Yamalube's? I think we all know the answer. ;)

I think that would all depend on the weight of the oil...
We're talkin' Chuck Norris, here! Chuck Norris doesn't care about viscosity!
Chuck Norris is an old man -- hell he's older than me. But he'd kick both Yammie's AND Amshits! And his cowboy hat would never fall off...... bet ya a stock oil filter vs. a car filter on that one!

Ok, for real, let's forget about Amsoil here. Can someone read that study and see how much sense it makes? I'm not asking if Amsoil is best, nor do I give two *****. I was hoping to get some intelligent thought out of someone on that study and if it made sense.

We've had a million NEPRTs about oil. Yes, this can and likely will be another, but at least *finally* we've got a "study" to help she some light on some common questions.

Kinda hard to forget. Anytime a "study" is by a particular manufacturer or marketer of oil it's pretty much suspect and probably not a study...and particularly so when it says, "AMSOIL, INC." on it.

I wouldn't read it if I was paid money or if it included instructions on how to dismantle the **** bomb it was wrapped around.

When you find a study that says "SAE" or some other recognized entitity that isn't a manufacturer or paid by one...I'd love to read it.

Ol jestals been awol fer quite some time
'Bout the same length of time Radman went MIA. Rad claimed something about detoxifying from the web. Anybody seen the two of them together touring around Berkeley, CA area?

I guess my question , dismissing all the possible funny and idiotic comments I could make with an opening like this is:

Where did you ever read that Yamalube was that great to begin with?

Not even sure where or who makes it, is it what I call a "Designer oil" much like Honda oil, or Suzuki oil.

I'll stick with my Wal-mart jug of Rottella T...which oddly does well in independant tests not paid for by shell...

Been said here a few times already, but studies done by the manufacturer showing that there brand is superior should be taken as it is--an advertisment or a marketing ploy and with a grain of salt. B)

Actually, MCN did quite a lab comparison of motor oils a couple of years ago.....and the diesel oils did quite well.

I'd think all the information has got to be in the annals of the forum under the NEPRT heading.

Just for fun, for your reading pleasure, from our friends at Google:

oil site:fjrforum.com

oil brands site:fjrforum.com

synthetic oil site:fjrforum.com

amsoil site:fjrforum.com

diesel oil site:fjrforum.com

Jestal oil site:fjrforum.com

I'm surmising that any questions you have about oil for your FJR are probably answered in some of the past discussions.

I don't buy into any of this crap personally. One oil is as good as another! Thats why I personally use extra virgin olive oil in the engine and canola in the final drive!! :jester:

Wesson unsaturated for me..... the engine loves it's light, crisp taste! :p

I hadn't thought of Canola oil in the final drive... I'll give that a shot next....
