Hi

Sometime ago a forum member had made a homemade "tool" to straighten the mirror bracket.

Have looked for the post but can't find it. Would appreciate the post if anyone can recall it.

Thanks for any help.

IIRC it was a piece of wood to provide a longer lever while straightening the bracket. Anything will do, drill to match the mirror bolt spacing, bolt to bracket and straighten away. Might take once or twice to get it just right.

Good luck.

Escapefjrtist remembers correctly. Piece of 2 x 4 about 36" long, a couple of bolts about 3" long, I think 5/16' bolts, a bunch of fender washers . Drill a couple of holes in one end of the 2 x 4 about 2" in from the end, insert the bolts with washers, nuts on the inside. Snug the bolts up and then use the 2 x 4 as a long lever. I used the gap between the rubber damping pad and the cowling as a rough guide. When the gap is even on both edges I thought that was pretty close. Refit the mirrors and adjust more if desired. Takes a little bit of time. I'll try to post a couple of pictures.

Probably not the one you were looking for, but this is one I used after an unfortunate incident.

This is an edge-on view. The bar is about 1cm (3/8th inch) thick, about 8cm (2.5 inches) wide about 40cm (15inches) long, and I drilled it to take two bolts spaced to fit the holes for the mirror. The frame straightened very easily. Which is why it probably bent fairly easily.

If you don't want to take off the plastic, use washers or big nuts as spacers to clear the plastic.

Thank you all for the wit & wisdom.

' Mcatrophy' I appreciate the pictures and was sorry to see what you called an "unfortunate incident " hope it all turned out ok.

Regards,

Bike came out good as new, just cost a lot for replacement stuff.

I didn't even get that nasty feeling of stupidity you get when you drop it yourself! Just simple annoyance for a genuine accident that was impossible to predict except with hindsight.
