I tried posting onto an old thread quickly earlier, so for the dual post I appologize; but I thought this route more logical and more likely to be seen.

I have a mechanic puting on the Honda heated grips on my 2006 A, and he says the bar ends won't fit back on. Did anybody have to machine the ends or alter them in any way to get the stock bar ends on the handlebar?? I am swamped at work but appreciate any help.......

TIA.

I have the same setup. The Honda weights will not mount on the FJR, just toss them. Put the old FJR ones back on, they fit fine. I have installed a set of stainless weighted bar ends, but the extra weight really doesn't help my 07. The bars aren't buzzy to begin with.

I liked the larger, heavier Honda bar ends so I modified them to fit the FJR. All that's required is a hacksaw to cut off the notched part that contacts the nut inside your handlebar. I actually cut off a little more than the notch so that the bar ends would fit almost flush (gotta leave a little room so the throttle doesn't drag).

I put the ST1300 grips on myself easy job. I am using the the stock ends right now had to put a small washer onto space them out just a bit because I have the V-Strom hand gaurds as well.

I plan on getting over to a friends place and using his lath to do some mod's to the larger ST1300 bar ends and use them. I could do the hack saw deal but I also want to put a grove in for the V-Strom end to clip into so as to make it look natural.

This is where I posted (#34) the original thread on the Honda Heated Grips Installed: War Machine's Honda Heated Grips Installed

Be aware that the connector from the Honda heated grips is different from the Yamaha connector on the bike where the heated grips tie in. I changed the Honda connector. And like Alex said the Honda grips will not fit. I used the ManicSalamander bar ends with a little trimming of the heated grips to make a clean installation.

War Machine's post last year is exactly why I choose to install the Honda unit on my bike. The install came out looking great. I love the fact that the control turns off automatically with voltage as well as resumes heating after the bike is restarted.

Thanks to all who posted. My life at work is really bad right now, but I will get these responses to my guy soon. I drove to his shop tonight before seeing these responses, and decided to go with the stock end weights as I never had much vibration problem. But I'll hold onto the Honda/manic salamander weights, and a copy of this thread if I change my mind and go with the manic salamander ends.

War machine,

thanks for the info you posted way back when. What was the modification you had to make on the honda connector? Can you describe it?

My bars aren't too buzzy at speed (75-85), but maybe enough to numb my throttle hand. So I'm looking at MANIC Salamander Bar-End Weights for my '08 FJR. I e-mailed Twisted Throttle asking about installation since only the '05 and '06 FJR are specifically mentioned. Their reply -

Our information says they'll fit '06 and later.

I am not familiar with the precise installation steps but it should just

screw into the barends.

Does anyone have direct knowledge whether they'll screw right in to my FJR? Any kudos or complaints regarding this project?

(I am not well versed in all things mechanical. Yesterday I was pleased to be able to install this passenger backrest which arirved in the mail. Well, that was damn easy. Three bolts and I'm done. Looks good, too. Hope Stella feels more secure now.)

They fit just fine.
