That rumour isn't 'news'. It figured very heavily in my decision to buy an '06 FJR or an '05 or '06 ST1300.

Here in Canada the FJR cost more than the ST - about an extra Grand - and Honda was tossing in the factory top box. Then there was the extra $750 I had to pay to extend the warranty to FOUR years on the FJR where the Honda gave 3 to start.

The FJR comes without bag liners up here, and a one year warranty, but is the start of a new series, where Honda was the end of the line. I also wanted the performance, but would have settled for the weather protection.

There is no doubt in my mind that the FJR is taking a HUGE BITE out of Honda's ST1300 sales. Until Honda gets real again with its offerenings, I will be skipping them for the second time for my next scoot.

Bramfrank: I'm not sure where you are located, but my 05 FJR out the door with Yamaha top case, tall windshield and foot guards installed last year was $15,500. Most of the Honda ST 1300 were priced in around $18,000.

I was offered the '05 ST1300 with Honda top case for $15,800 - about 1K more for the '06 without the case.
Dealer cost for the FJR in my corner of the world is apparently about $16,100 - and he has to assemble (OK, unpack) the machine. I couldn't get ANYONE local to go below $17K - I managed to negotiate one local dealer to $16,650 (helps when you are buying a ZX14 to go along with the FJR - no, not for me, but for a friend) - and got the $100 promo discount on the extended warranty, PLUS I negotiated an extra $100 off as well. And THAT's a rip when you compare to the US Y.E.S. program.

I have yet to receive my promo moneyclip, mug and keychain - nor have I seen any sign of the $300 Yamabuck credit - but then I ordered the oversize windshield - then cancelled it.

What's with that anyway? In the UK they want about 5 euros more for the oversize '06 screen than for the '05 - here it's more than double?? I can buy one in the UK, ship it here and put about $100 change in my pocket.

Next items will be to find a decent mount for the 276c (I don't like it on the left bar because it blocks my view of the mirror), mount rhe Autocom and install frame sliders.

I wouldn't waste any money on the Yamaha Tall windshield. I was getting a lot of buffeting on my shoulders with it on. Ended up with a Rifle shield, which is not bad. Watching the Vstream thread, it sounds interesting.

I agree the Honda has the better warranty. But when I bought my '05 the prices were pretty evenly matched (once you got into negotiating).

Then of course there was also that little issue of the FJR running circles around the ST. Which made sense once I sat on both in a showroom and lifted them up off the side stand. The ST was a F@#$@ pig. My god! I think a honda Civic weighs less than the ST! In the original article it mentioned Honda reducing the weight. Boy are there engineers in for a challenge! Even with a 50lb weight reduction it still would weigh 50 lbs more than the FJR. Just sad.....

Yep, something like that goofy C1 BMW had a few years ago only with a V4 powerplant....

:p
