I took a look at the VFR on the honda site. They've got the side bags listed at 1399.00 then if you want the trunk you need to buy a rear rack for 100.00 then the top case will run you 599.00. I'm thinking they won't be selling a lot of these. Hello Givi.

Ya, could see those uber expensive cases coming. Honda has done priced themselves out of the ST niche.

I agree, Honda's are getting way up there. In our current financial situation and economy, Honda will find themselves out of business completely if not extremely careful. Companies that try and gouge their loyal customers tend to get bit in the *** for trying to screw folks, especially when money is so tight.

Local dealer has a VFR on the floor tagged at MSRP with the bags thrown in. While talking to them last weekend, they are getting another VFR and setting it up for demo rides. They seem very motivated on this bike...

My prediction, wait another six months and you'll be able to buy one at under MSRP with the side bags. They sure look good setting there... :dribble:

honda loyalists seem somewhat brainwashed

specialy in the atv market

they think nothing of spending top dollar on a very outdated machine

i cant see honda going out of buisness anytime soon as they still have their followers

however after buying a 2010 fjr and then takign a ride on the vfr 1200 i still think i made the right choice

the fjr seems to fit me just right and my right hand still makes me grin (on the bike not the shower)

They had a new VFR sitting next to my 09 when I picked it up a month ago .. with bags for the $6000 difference .. I just couldn't see how it would sell.

Well, I've had the opportunity to talk with several guys who attended the recent MSTA STAR Sport-Touring rally in Taos where Honda gave 45 minute test-rides of the VFR1200DCT.

Admittedly, it's only the guys I've talked with -- but the concensus I hear is they were 'somewhat warm' to the bike, overall; and not much in-favor of the automatic transmission.

Looks-like?, another "hard sell"? This time for Honda instead of Yamaha...

I like the VFR. The bike that replaces my FJR will be slightly more sporty, but still comfortable. It will have equal or greater power, it will be 40-60 pounds lighter, with more aggressive looks, and probably be shaft drive. That pretty much leaves me the VFR1200 and K1300S to choose from.

BMW reliability concerns me a bit, but overall I think I like that bike better than the VFR.

I'm waiting to see if the VFR gets any revisions for its second year, see if the aftermarket catches up (I'd like a Sargent seat with a pillion storage system like that available for the K1300S) and hopefully comes in a color other than red.

SVTNate-you might want to check out the newest version of the Triumph ST too..Pretty sharp and supposedly 590 lbs wet..at just over 13K..It's not a shaftie tho-bummer.

Are you talking about the Sprint GT, or this?

The next Sprint ST won't be coming stateside, and the Sprint GT has bags that I really don't need (and a chain drive I really don't want). It does look like a good, sportier competitor to the FJR, though.

Yamaha can sell the FJR for the current price (+/- $15,000) because it's been around so long. Tooling and in-production development is paid for long ago; now it's just crank 'em out and count the money. Honda, for reasons known only to them, has jacked-up the price of the ST1300 in recent years, even though it has had even fewer changes over the years than the FJR. 2010 ST1300s are pretty close to BMW R1200RT prices and BMW has continued to evolve the RT. I'd be very interested in the long-anticipated Honda sport-tourer, but I'm afraid it will be up in the BMW K1300GT price range. It might be that good a machine but priced over the magic $20K puts it 'way out of my league. And dollar values are down so everything that's imported (just about everything) costs more. What we need is a good 4-cylinder, 1400 cc, Harley sport-tourer.

The FJR has gone from ~$13.5k in 2006 to ~$15.2k in 2010. They've changed the color in that time frame, and that's about it.

I'm with you on the seemingly needless price increases, but I took na1g's post to mean that the Hondas have gone up too much for the times. Everything increases in price. Look at the price of bread or milk compared to 15 years ago, and the only thing different about them is...Well, nothing. It's the production costs that go up, so I expect that every year, the cost of a new bike in the same model will increase.

Part of my issue with Honda is that they are a little crazy about their pricing. Nearly every new model they have put out in the last 5-6 years has been billed as overpriced. The DN-01, that NV700 or whatever it is are just two examples, and now the new VFR. Back in '07 when I bought my FJR, the Honda dealership wanted just $200 more for an identical ST1300...Identical except for the ABS. The ST1300 with ABS was nearly $1200 more. For my money, the FJR made way better sense, and if Honda keeps up their pricing practice, more people will realize that Honda is pricing people out of good deals and themselves out of sales. Hell, even Harley posted decreased earnings last yer because the loyalists can't keep up, and Honda does not have that type of following.

No way I would spend that kind of money for a VFR when there are FJRs and Connies still on dealership floors.

Check out the latest Motorcycle Consumer News... they compared the FJR, Connie, and VFR, The Yamaha & Kawasaki were pretty much neck and neck, but the Honda didn't even place. They panned the hell out of it. I'd cite quotes, except apparently my copy's at work.
