My 06AE just arrived.....can pick it up tomorrow.....Just got off Progressive's website and obtained a $300,000 CSL (combined single limit) liability policy for $109!!!!! Got the proof of Insurance in my wallet now..

Didn't even bother getting a quote for UM, PIP, or full coverage....as the premiums for these coverages are ridiculous and worthless.....example: who needs medical when you already have major medical, and Uninsured Motorist? Ever try suing your own insurance co...GOOD LUCK, like they're just gonna write you a check. Uh HUH!!!!

Again, I'm paying cash, but the dealer told me that Yamaha Financial would finance it and the only insurance requirement is liability insurance....

P.S. I am having the dealer install lojack on THE SILVER BULLET!!!

Hmm, what state? I checked Progressive and Geico, and they were both in the $1000 range here in Indiana.

$109 sounds like the first installment, not the whole policy. Hope you are right, and I am WRONG. :yahoo:

Sentry (Dairyland) was about 6 bills here. That's where I'm going!

Sentry was $700 for me, I just switched to American Family and it dropped to about $450...

Daiyland, year one: $550 for 100/300/50 full coverage, 250 deductible, 3000.00 in accessories.

Year 2: $500.

year 3: $275

year 4: $245

I'm with Dairyland like Bounce, but my rates aren't nearly as low as his, and have gone up slightly every year to boot... :glare:

(note: no accidents or items on my record during that time to make my rates go up.... they did "just because")

tell 'em you switched out that german army helmet for a real one and it might help.

Earth calling Mars, Come in Mars......

The $109 was for LIABILITY ONLY!!!!! And I'm talking Dallas, Texas here...the 2nd highest city in Texas to insure a vehicle in!!!

How's the crime rate?

Sheesh, liability only? You ARE a brave man, aren't you!

Like I said, I'm having LOJACK installed, so the thief issue isn't there.....and as far as wrecking it, I have to total the bike out and it'd have to be my fault too for this to be a losing proposition. Otherewise, in 5 years I'd paid more in insurance premiums than my bike is worth!!! Let me put it into another propective, when I pay$800/yr for a $120,000 Mercedes and then they want $900/yr for a motorcycle which will be worth only $9,000 after a year, the decision was pretty obvious....If it's that big of a deal, why do you think Yamaha Financial only requires Liablity, They're trying to keep you from being RIPPED OFF by insurance co's!!....And, If they don't give a damn about making you carry all that basically worthless insurance coverage, why do you?

Well,

Let's say you go for a great ride with all your buds! EVeryone pulls over and parks under some trees.

A big limb falls, hits everyone's bikes!

Everyone else has full coverage! No ones fault. you get to buy another bike and they get theirs paid for.

besides state farm is only 450.00 a year.

But what the heck, it appears you can afford another 11000 for the 07.

So I guess 109 is good, I am sure yammy doesn't care if they only do liability, because someone is still going to pay them for that bike. Just not the insurance company

I carry full coverage on my FJR, simply because it's the only way I could afford to replace it if sumpthin' happened. I've got American Family at about $450 per year.

But in spirit I'm with Starcruiser. I dump off the full coverage on my vehicles once their value begins to depreciate to where they're worth less than $5000, simply because I won't file an at fault claim for less than that. With the way the insurance companies extort money out of you after you file a claim, you need to file a big one or not file at all. IMO, lots of people are over insured, in the belief that it's worth it. Most often, it's not.

If I could afford to replace my bike, I'd carry liability only. I mean, if the insurance company is willing to bet they'll make money off my premiums, why should I doubt them?

You hit the nail right on the head......you must become financially free and to do that you MUST stop sending all your money to insurance cos for fear a limb gonna fall off a tree and crush your motorcycle...and $450 is a fair price, However I'm addressing the people talking about paying upward of $1,000 or more.....THAT'S TOTALLY ABSURD! In 5 years, they'll have paid $5,000 to protect a bike only worth $5,000....I bet Vegas would send a limosine out to bring these guys to town..

Does having full coverage make one feel as if a safety net is underneath them? Never had it.

I live in College Station Texas and I have all my insurance with ANPAC. On my 2006 FJR1300AE, I have full coverage with $250 deductibles, $5000 medical, and $250k/500k on everything else including UIM. The cost is $221 a year (this does include several discounts).

As far as NOT having UIM, you are braver than I am. If someone without insurance hits me, ....

Best Regards,

Shane

I just got Dairyland too for my '03. $242.37 for the year, full coverage, no med though. They also gave me a 10% discount for being an AMA member and another 5% for having an alarm! Sweet say I. Cheapest rate I found hands down.

I'm coming to the realization that the greater Houston Metroplex must have the absolute worst insurance rates around...

Star cruiser: what happens when you get in a wreck and you are not insured for your bike to be replaced? You will still make payment and have nothing to ride. You better hope the other guy is at fault

You neeed some serious insrance education to help you make a better decision.........

May the force be with you and the insurance gods..............
