I need to attach the protective strip that is on the side of the saddlebags. This is a new part and didn't come with adhesive. I will use 3M 2-sided tape if there is no other suggestion. Anyone know what is specified for this rubber body molding?

I usually use the Weld Wood contact cement, found at your local hardware store like: Sentry, Home Depot, or Lowe's.

Get the Red label. Works great, and will last during/after a Tsunami!

If I had to do it, I would use some black RTV (auto parts store) carefully applied to the lid and then set the strip into it. Make sure you lay the bag so the strip is horizontal until it cures...

Gaurald, thanks for answering. Just to clarify, this is not weatherstrip, this is a body molding:

Some 3M adhesives that I have used on my car bodies to affix various rubber, plastic and decals are:

spray adhesive 08088

tube 847

Acrylic Foam Tape

tube 08061 <---- this adhesive is what I use for most rubber/plastic to paint/metal jobs and should do a good job on the rubber bumper strip on the bag -- ironically, most posts about this rubber strip involves how to remove it and the underlying adhesive

Great minds think alike. That is what I was going to recommend-- the 3M 08008 comes in a tube too.

LOL, thanks for the help. So this is commonly removed?

I was thinking of the foam tape, but the 3M 08008 makes sense for this material.

FYI, the factory adhesive is a black RTV silicone, and that's what I used to re-attach after painting.

I tried 3M tape first, but the added thickness of the tape made for a large gap and poor visual result.

That was what I was looking for. I bought the bike December 1, and I suspect the bag was refinished or replaced since it didn't have this strip. Odd since there were no other signs of damage and it only had 6700 miles.
