I have recently been thinking of maybe getting into doing some track days. I have never actually ridden on a track but will soon be living in SoCal and will be about 30 minutes from Willow Springs and 40 miles from Buttonwillow tracks. It is something I have always wanted to do but have no idea what to expect as far as cost etc. What the processes for getting onto a track and getting some first time instruction. I noticed that Willow offers a Superbike school but are these typically for new track riders that have never been on a track before? What all is required for preping bike etc.

All of this is kinda a wild hair right now and I currently don't even own a street bike. I have in the past owned a 92 GSXR 750R but for the past 8 years just been racing in the dirt. Currently riding a KTM dirt bike but have this itch to ride a track on a street bike.

Last thing is I am a little older and larger than I use to be. Currently 35 years old 6'4 250lbs. What would be a good bike for someone like me to look into getting that will fit me somewhat? Sorry for all the newbie questions but am hoping that someone could point me into the right direction and give me some websites or somewhere I can get some additional information. Am I to old and fat to be considering playing on a track?

I started 6 years ago @ 31yoa and am your same height/weight. I started with California Superbike School/Keith Code after reading all the Twist of the Wrist books. Keith's home track is Willow, I think. I currently race a GSXR 750-sort of the 600 equivalent for us clydesdale sized guys. If you are into racing dirtbikes you may also want to consider super-moto. Lots of guys are leaving the sportbike racing to get into the MUCH more affordable SM angle. CSS has a very complete and informative webpage too, with a Cornering Forum for all your specific questions.
