My 6 yr old can reach the pegs this year. I took her for a slow ride around the neighborhood, but probably won't go any farther till she's at least a few years older. At this age she still doesn't quite get how important safety on a bike is.

I've taken my 4 year old around the block a few times.I won't do much more than that until he can reach the pegs, at least that's what I tell my wife. ;)

He's an old pro as well, just ask him.

Now Tom that is cute! In a male power tools kind of way :)

I used to take my older son around on the Intruder when he was maybe 7-8 and the wife was ok. He could touch the pegs which is the law in most places. For my younger son, I used to putts around the block with him in front holding the tank (5 mph kind of thing). He would cry when I came back with the older one and he didnt get a ride too; what could I do? A cop eventually gave me a hard time about it so I stopped doing that. With the FJR I dont take the kids. The wife said "over my dead body" or "From my cold dead hands" or something like that and so I dont touch it. :)

My son has been riding with me since he was 7. Found a XS full face youth helmet, leather jacket and gloves and he was a happy camper. He's almost 14 now and still enjoys the dad and son time when we are out... No long trips yet, but that is coming soon.

Hmmm... I would have thought the FJR would be better than the intruder for kids... must be that she just doesn't trust you to keep the FJR's speed in check! :p

Just razzing ya! I was in the same boat... pre-seperation and impending divorce! :D

1 & 2 would kill the notion for many. I cannot imagine anyone stating that riding on a motorcycle is a safe place or free from risk - especially when it comes to our children. We FJR owners are willing to accept some risk, but the risks I accept for my kids is much less than the risks I will take with myself. I know it is not right, but tough ****.

If they can stay awake, remember and obey instructions even a few hours after they are given, hold on and reach the pegs, and you can guarantee not to have an accident... No sooner than that.

LOL it's true, he does look like a wee squidlet!

My pops used to take me around on the front of his dirt bike when i was very small. it's one of those things though... i don't know if that would happen again looking back!!

Most states have some kind of law, usually when they can reach the footpegs. and/or an age limit...

One thing I learned from riding my son on my bicycle... I had a seat for him in front of me and he had footrests...

make sure the kid has either goggles or a full face helmet.

My son would fall asleep because the wind was blowing in his eyes....
