Well, Hungry Mother spring 2018 didn’t go exactly as planned. Washed out roads, mudslides, two man u-turns, an ex-cop among us doing a dine-and-dash (maybe he hasn’t been retired long enough to get used to not eating for free in exchange for “keeping an eye on the place"?) and one of the ridingest fools I’ve ever met bailing on us to watch Dale Jr and Alanis Morissette get married.

What started as a camp and ride turned into a hybrid “part of the group camps and part of the group motels and ride” event. Then over dinner at the Hungry Mother Campground Restaurant,

we looked at the radar and the ride turned into an “everybody motels and rides” event.

In and out of rain and fog all weekend. But that makes for less traffic, except in Damascus, where some kind of Appalachian Trail festival had the town overrun with hippies at a ratio of about 800 hippies per port-a-jon. And maybe it makes for a little bit of interesting video

Your post gave me a good chuckle. Sorry it was at your expense.

I had a nice day planned through there on the way back from Moonshine last month but the weather put an end to that. Didn't think snow and those roads went together too well. Just gonna have to get back there this year hopefully. Enjoyed the vid though, thanks.

(Dine & dash? Really??)

No sh......

Eric, the retired cop, claims that as the new guy in the group he was concerned about getting his rain gear on without holding up the collective. The check at Stax comes all on one ticket, so when you go to cash out, you tell the cashier what you had and she breaks it up. Well, Mark was the last in line so when he got hit with the "everything that's left" it was about double what he was expecting, and there was no more of our crowd left in the diner. Mark graciously paid for his and Eric's, and even more graciously told Eric that he had. He's a better man than me. I'd have waited 'til about an hour down the road and then told Eric "oh, I forget to tell you to go back in to pay your bill when I came out, and I think they have your tag #", and I'd have let it worry him for at least a half day.

Edit ps It was John's first time north of Roan Mtn and Eric's first time above the BRP, on the bikes. It was a treat to see their reactions to the good stuff.
