Kept waiting for one of the main players to post up a ride report so I could do a nice, simple "gunny" to the:

"good food, good peeps, fantastic day to ride, weren't the hills pretty and green", but instead I had to start the topic because I'm sleepy and I wanted to thank Hycle for setting this up before I zonked.

Small crowd today - Mr. and Mrs. Hycle plus Bokerfork and AnneMarie two-up, and RicInSac and I - sans our better halves - all made it to El Dorado Hills roughly at the designated kickoff time. Up the hill to Plymouth with lots of 'ooh - green, green grass', 'aah - lookit the purty flowers', 'crap, that's a 2/3 grown turkey - hope his sibs don't make like chickens and cross the road' and of course 'Come on cars, git outta the way - these two-wheelers can actually negotiate corners at speed!'

In true CBA spirit, we made it to the second stop within about a half hour of setting off from El Dorado. And there was Sacramento Mike halfway through his breakfast brunch - his clock cam chain had slipped a tooth, so he was there an hour early, having thought he'd missed us in El Dorado.

HOLY CRAP, WHY DID I NOT KNOW about Marlene and Glen's Diner in Plymouth? They put out some quality grub (I think Bokerfork got a pic or two). After food, Hycle and company decided to continue on the path to caloric overload by heading to the Chocolate Factory, but I had just finished scrubbing in a new rear tire and felt the need for some light hooliganism. Sacramento Mike was of a similar mindset, so we said our farewells and headed back up 49 (hey, where'd all the cars go?) to 50 to Ice House Road to check on the status of Wentworth Springs Road.

Ice House Road is in pretty good shape - Some frost heaving, some crap in the road, mostly clean and smooth. I caught a rock hiding in the shadows and put a minor dent in my front rim :angry2: . Wentworth Springs Road is another story, completely covered in that funky white stuff you see in pics from places like upstate New York or Minnesota. Had another nice run back down Ice House Rd. and Hwy 50 before Sacramento Mike and I headed our separate ways in Placerville - I needed a brisk Hwys 49-193-49-80 run to pare down those rear chicken strips and he needed to get home in time for chores.

Nice report Patrick. I would love to oblige with some photos but I'm still trying to figure out how. I'm sure it's much easier than I'm making it, but....

Anyway, +1 on the breakfast. Worth a trip to Plymouth any day. The company wasn't half bad either. If I figure out this picture thing soon, I'll post up the eye popping French Toast that Terry ordered. If not, I think Sacto Mike has a pic or two of the same.

Anyway, thanks again to the Hycle's for a great suggestion and for coordinating it on a day that OM was unavailable. Made it that much better. :yahoo:

Mark and Anne Marie

I guess I was lucky I got there at all. Went jetting out of the house late--I thought--to meet at Starbucks at 9. Passed THREE CHP traffic stops on the short ride out 50, so I wasn't inclined to make up too much lost time, and arrived at least 10 minutes late. (Or maybe 45 minutes early. Duh.) Circled the lot one time and decided to just head out to Plymouth and meet everybody there. Another gorgeous day and a nice ride. It occurred to me that I was going to get there long before the announced 11:00 target time for Marlene and Glen's, but I just figured they were taking a more scenic route. More roundabout, anyway. Latrobe Road is beautiful right now. Green grass, yellow flowers, contented cows, everything.

I had time to kill in Plymouth so I took in the local flea market at the town fairgrounds. The "fairgrounds" was a cow pasture big enough for maybe one cow, and the flea market had about eleven booths with a total of maybe $60 worth of merchandise, but it seemed to be the local social scene for a Saturday morning as there were lots of shoppers and neighborly visitors, each one with at least one dog on a leash. Guess it's also the local dog park. Should have taken a picture. I bet Old Michael would have.

Anyway, as mentioned, Marlene and Glen's was a great little joint and the menu was at least a full page longer than the Plymouth phone book. It was so good I'll go back there with the whole family. In a CAR. Please note the full name of the establishment:

And Mark wasn't kidding about the quantity and quality of the food. The three plates in this shot were all part of Mike and Terri's breakfast. (l to r: Mike--Hycle, Terri, Ric (in Sac). and two weeks' provisions)

I decided to head up toward Ice House with Patrick (RsvlFeej) and learn some good new roads. He made that Wentworth Springs Road sound like a can't miss. We did, though.

Patrick made it a challenge, but he never lost me on Ice House road. Only because he kept stopping and waiting for me. Thanks, pal. I kept picturing Old Michael sailing over that edge as we blistered those turns. Helped keep me safe. It was a terrific day. Thanks everybody, and thanks for the good idea, Mike and Terri.

Geez, that was a sweeping, epic, panoramic journey for the senses guys.

Let's see.

Half a dozen riders,

a number of cameras,

hundreds of combined miles,

through beautiful country,

and we get-

3 pictures.

-A sandwich board sign,

-HYCLE inhaling French Toast,

.

.

.

-and a dead end.

National Geographic will be calling.

.

.

Okay, the word part was entertaining.

Thank you.

Everybody's a critic. First, I apologize for saying those three plates were part of Mike and Terri's breakfast. I think they were Mike and Terri's complete breakfast.

And National Geographic didn't call. "Gourmand" magazine did.
