Can anyone help me out here. I'm hooking up some hyperlights and am electrically retarded. They want the hyperlight red wire hooked up to the brake light +12 volt and the black to the brake light ground wire. I have a black, blue, and yellow running to the brake light....which is which?

On my 04.....Black is the Ground wire, and Yellow is the Brake Light.

The third would be the flasher.

I'm going by memory here, so use caution.

But...when I hooked up my Givi 46 brake light black was ground and I am 80% sure the +12 was Yellow.

Flashbacks to the opening scene of Lethal weapon 2 for some reason

Blue, yellow, Blue...

If someone doesn't respond by the time I get home I will take a peek under the seat.

How about a test light? Do you have one to see if the blue or yellow is +12V?

They are about $5 at any auto parts store

Oh have I got test lights. I think I buy a new one every time I get the idea that I am going to be doing something electrical. Now I know that this should be about as elementary as it gets but I cant even get the test light to work and the brake lights work fine. I even went so far as to break out the nifty '06 service manual and looked at the wiring diagram. Went from confused to complete mental shutdown damn near immediately.....

Looks like the post from bounce should help you out.

Took a peek at mine on the way home as well.

Black ground, yellow +12V

Mine is an 05 though, "should" be the same

As far as the test light goes, did you have the key turned on when looking for power?

The brakes are a switched power source (only work when bike is on/running)

Other than that idea maybe you didn't pierce the insulation to contact the wire.

Myself I try to find a contact/fitting on the circuit in question if I can (vice piercing the insulation)

Hope you figure it out, if not plenty of folks here to help.

I have had Hyperlites on my previous bikes and just installed a set on my 06 FJR last sunday. Yellow to red, and black to black is correct.

Just a note about the LEDs. They are quite directional so the have to be pointed almost horizontal. I removed the two red reflectors on each side of the license plate and put them on that bracket. I tilted them so they are level across the top. This shoots them directly at the driver following. I also like them away from the brake light as this gives the best definition.

I get lots of positive commments from other riders and car drivers. They work.
