Whats the scoop on road conditions from Fl to New Orleans via I-10? From Jacksonville to Mobile, AL. it appears to be OK. From Mississippi to N.O. it looks very questionable. In fact, AAA advises against using I-10 through Mississippi and Louisiana. Their info shows vast areas of the road to be under repair. I was told to expect long delays on the road, having to put up with extremely rough road conditions and also expect to see a lot of gravel. Do any of you have personal experience with traveling that area recently. I would appreciate hearing about the conditions you encountered.

When are you planning on traveling? I'm headed from Jax to NO this weekend and could let you know the road conditions next week.

When we did our 50cc back in march we took 12 around New Orleanes but other than that we found no problem with I 10, there is one bridge I belive in FLA but we late at night and blasted right through.

I rode from Jax to New Orleans this last Monday. Just west of Lake City there is some construction for about 2 miles with only one lane open. Traffic was moving at a good rate through this.

The bridge at Pensacola still has some sections of metal grating. The bridge was posted at 45 but both lanes were open westbound and traffic moved at a good 55 - 60 mph. The traffic across the bridge eastbound was restricted to one lane and was stop and go for about 3 miles. Other than that I-10 is good all the way to New Orleans.

Hey Derek,

You out on a trip or a REALLY long commute? The curious wants to know? :D

Knocked out a couple of Iron Butt rides...all unofficial until the paperwork is approved. First was the "Pines to Palms" ride that the Minnesota LD Riders organized. Eighteen hardy souls left Angle Inlet, MN on a Friday morning with temps around 30 degrees. Drove through some snow along the Canadian border and ended the ride at Key West the next day. It's offically called the Top Down tour with 75 hours to complete. 50 for the gold.

The other ride was a BBG from Venice, LA (the end of the Missisippi) to Lake Itasca, MN (Headwaters of the Mississippi). I wanted to do something different to get my BBG and this seemed like a good idea at the time. Had I known how tough it would be I may have reconsidered. 1600 miles in 24 hours, part of that through what could be described as a war zone or landfill.
