I just finished a trip from Sacramento to SLC and back to pick up my kids. Left Sac yesterday and got back today. Spent the night in Heber City at the Viking Inn. There was an '06 FJR with a pillon and Missouri plates in the parking lot. Anybody from around here?

Anyway, the heat is taking it's toll on truck tires and they're literally all over the road. Chunks of tires and whole caps strewn like I've never seen before. Definately be alert for that!

The Nevada Highway Patrol is conducting wholesale muggings, again like I've never seen before. Particularly bad between Wells and Elko.

Major construction zones are east of Reno and west of Elko, be prepared for slow downs and lane closures. These two are about 10+ miles long. There are a few other minor zones.

Enjoy the WFO! I can't make it, I have the kids.

Thanks, dude....was considering that route to minneapolis after reno....may have to adjust. Should I bring my own lube for the leo's?

I'm planning on going that route home, through KC... but I'll be traversing most of that at O-dark thirty, so I'm not thinking the traffic should be tooo bad.

Traffic wasn't a problem even in the daytime. The slow downs are caused by the lowered speed limits in the construction zones. That'll be the case at night too. The main hazard (day or night) is all the tires and chunks thereof. Be alert!

Definitely Diet Coke night at the Saturday banquet...

Thanks for the info E-H... construction zone slowdowns I much prefer to traffic slowdowns... as long as I'm moving... will keep an eye out for dead gators...

Suggested alternate route: take I-80 about 30 miles to Fernley and catch the road to Fallon (you'll merge onto Highway 50 before Fallon). Take 50 to Utah and pick up I-70 east. That'll get you to KC. There's traffic in Denver but not anywhere else until you get to KC.

Silverado, I agree with you. Not only is Hwy 50 less crowded than I80, it's more fun to ride. I-70 from Beaver, UT area to Denver has much better scenery than the I-80 trek to Cheyenne. Time it right and you'll watch the sun come up onto the red cliffs of eastern UT. A magnificant site.

For sure this is my prefered route. Done the I-80 thing sucks at best. You can prolly make better time on 50 anyway. JB

Except for the Mormon crickets and cattle on the road.... Not to mention finding 24 hour gas in the wee hours of the morning in the middle of nowhere Nevada....

I'll take it under consideration...

I wish! I drive across Nevada regularly and I-80 is a lot faster regardless of the slowdowns. It is a sucky road. 50 is a lot better drive but it takes longer. Driving at night you might as well go for the quick route, the stars look the same.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, not to mention that I'll probably be driving I-50 west on the way into Reno...
