I Can Put A Number On The Heat

Alright everyone, I do not want to start a heat debate with this thread, I am simply pointing out that I can give temps for those interested. I bought one of those infrared thermometer deals. I figured I had at least a few uses for it so what the heck. Well, after a long ride on Sunday I was feeling heat like never before. When I got home the insides of my thighs, just below my boys, was bright red from the heat. This is the worst I have ever felt it. At that moment, I was in too much of a hurry to get inside and get unloaded to think about it. Today however, I went out for a short ride in traffic and got up to 4 bars at red lights. As soon as I got home, I left the engine runing and immediately took a temp with my temp gun. Just under the forward portion of the tank, where the little black runbber like trim sits next to the frame, I am getting a temp of approx 174 degree's. Now this is sitting still. When I am moving, air is blowing this heat back directly in my crotch. My Power Commander should arrive today so while I have the tank off this weekend, I'll install the Thermotech adhesive stuff under the tank and try the insulation foam along the fairing sides. Hopefully it will help a little. I don't care about heat, just redirect it so it is not blowing directly at my .................

I just wrap two potatoes in foil, put them under the fairing, and at the end of the day I have baked potatoes with my dinner! :bleh:

FWIW, I'm doing the heat mods on mine as well. Doesn't really bother me, but I have it all apart, I might as well.

I recently got one too. I wanted to know what the Tejas temps were on trucks, tailgates and FJR frames and tanks. Pretty shocking huh ? I have defrosted a steak several times on the spar piece of the frame after a ride.
