Port Jefferson, a village on the north shore of Long Island, NY which is a popular destination for motorcyclists has members of a business improvement district that want to ban all parking on their Main Street for various reasons one of them being to eliminate:

"The unsightly presence of motorcyclists"

We Hate Dirty Bikers

They couldn't be talking about us FJR'ers or they would also be banning Day Glo clothing.

Even when I drive a car I still consider myself a "motorcyclist" - I never realized that I had an unsightly "presence". I admit to sometimes having an unsightly "appearance" and a malodorous "aroma", but I've alway been proud of my "presence". I am always wherever I happen to "be".

Anyone who rides, has ridden, or wants to ride should avoid Port Jefferson and spend your unsightly motorcyclist dollars elsewhere. They're so wrinkley and such an unsightly shade of green.

And this whole time I thought we were a sexxy bunch....I mean who does'nt like assless chaps? Or are they talking about ugly bikes? Cause the FJR is Damn sexxy, must be those ugly Hardley's..

That's funny! I'd do my best to organize a group ride there, all carry cash, walk in the local shops and just before buying something say, "Oh wait a second. Isn't this the town that doesn't like motorcycles? I think I'll take my cash elsewhere." Done that at a shop or two (not motorcycles, but after given a bit of a chip on the shoulder, just left talking to my wife about how I'll buy something where they have good customer service).

Hahaha... I think that must be a rhetorical question, Chris. You already know that you should laugh.

Those butt wipes are trying to pretty up their place so they can attract the beautiful people. Maybe they won't go all the way to the Hamptons and will stop and hang around in their lovely villa.

The motto on their lame-o newsletter is pretty telling:

"Our goals this year are the same as our founders were in 1998:
to promote the district as a good place to live, work,
and shop
... to improve the overall appearance and quality through architectural improvements, landscaping, redevelopment, decoration, signage, lighting, and
improved sanitation
."
So, where do we begin...

This "improvement district", which has been around for what, all of 12 years, primarily wants people to come and spend their money there. They plan on accomplishing that by mowing the lawn, and kicking out the bikers. No doubt this group is mostly made up of recently transplanted inner city people, sprawling their way out out onto the island?

I wonder how the Port Jeff townies feel?

They should have specified HD Riders in their notice, b/c that's really want they probably mean. As someone with a second-story window facing an intersection in our little downtown of one-way streets, I can tell you when those jackasses rev their bikes up at the stop sign just to hear the sound bounce off the walls, I'd like to drop a flower pot on their unprotected heads!

What he said. It's the **** they are talking about. :lol2:

Well, to be fair, motorcycle issues are only 2 out of 14 items.

I think we can thank our loud-pipe 'rights' brothers...?

Also, many communities are becomming more and more "gentrified" with 'covenants' and locked-gates to protect the residents' sanctity and well-being (supposedly...?). Port Jefferson appears to just want to 'spruce-up' Main Street....

I'm reminded of the (World Famous) Ghost Motorcycles of, nearby, Port Washington -- a wonderful, valid, business that I'm sure contributed beneficially to the village of Port Washington for decades.

Tim05FJR lives next door in St James. Wonder what he thinks about this.

I see the garbage cans are still welcome on Main Street. What, no designer bins ? Wonder how their chamber of commerce feels about this clean up effort or if they're even involved ?

Stuff like this almost always goes down due to a few loud transplant ***-clowns trying to make over the new town to meet their idea of utopia.

I wonder what color your skin has to be, to be welcomed in this town? Is there a scale at the city limits? better get one quick so that they don't get any unsightly fat people coming in. How about hair color? better have a stylist at the ready to prevent those roots showing, or bad hair days spoiling things.

Hey, wasn't there a German guy who tried this a few years back? Wanting everyone to be pretty blue eyed and blonde?

Makes me wanna buy the loudest bike I can (even if its a Harley) and run it up and down main street.

Makes me wanna coordinate a nice demo. I'd get all the motorcycle buddies I know, and have half of them drive in respectfully, geared up, and with cash. And then the other half drive in all dirty and smelly, with loud cars. And have all the bikers realize that they're "not welcome" and leave and all the smelly, loud, annoying car drivers stay and hang out for a while.
