I could post this question on advrider or klr650, but then I'd get mostly serious responses. What fun is that?

I have hope somebody will tell me what to use besides K-Y.

I have decided the stock front tire has to go on my KLR. As part of the process, it is recommended to lube the front axle (I have Honda Moly for that). It is also recommended to lube the speed sensor that attaches to the front hub for the speedometer. Most instructions I've found just say "grease" it. What I have in the garage is the Honda Moly and a tube of NAPA Sil-Glyde Lubricating Compound which is advertised as "non-melting, non-freezing, non-gumming and weatherproof". Applications include on brake pads, calipers, window channels and speedometer cables.

Can I use one of these or should I wait until stores open and buy something else?

Dude... Just melt down some Moist ass Cheese an rub it in there.

Hey ya wanted wiseass din ya? I mean ya posted here :dribble:

Klown.

:jester:

I would think either one would be fine. There isn't much in there other than a couple gears that have very little load on them. When you put it back in make sure it seats all the way or the wheel won't slide back in place. If you have trouble give me a shout. I have a srevice manual for the KLR. Maybe Bust will send you some of his custom sheep lube as long as you don't mind the hair in it.

Thanks Ray. There are two little tabs on the sensor that fit into slots on the hub, so if I get that right I should be ok. Thanks for the advice, I'll use the NAPA stuff for the hell of it. I thought about shooting a PM to you but Bust gets ornery if he can't get to make some wise ass remarks when he is snowbound.

Owning this bike is fun. Ya gotta get another one.... just sayin'

Usually it should have plenty of grease but I think any grease would be fine.

I used Honda Moly last week after I had to clean out all the original lube to remove parts of the washer with the 2 taps (over 10.00 for that little part) due to a rush job last time I replaced the front tire and bent the tabs. :angry2:

My JD tractor now has a twitchy tach, cable driven. I'm going to try some Simons fork seal lube grease. It's a real light weight grease, better than liquid penetrate yet not thick enough to cause cable slow down due to friction.

Good to know for sure that Moly works. I was warned "No matter what you do, don't fubar those tabs..." Sorry bro. When I get in there if it looks well lubed and clean I might even say "goodenuff" and not touch it. There's only 1500 miles or so on the bike.

I will own another one, hopefully sooner than later. I have a couple picked out but the owners are not quite ready to let go yet. Bust is naot only snowbound but his girls cut him off. Something to do with the steel wool on another thread. They think he found a new friend.

I've done a little researching and one thread lead me to another, and... here is a short primer on greases by ionbeam:

EDIT: The pertinent points start at post #6

Ray, I am glad you are hunting a DS. A ride your way sounds like fun. Mount Bachelor area was nice on the FJR but some trails would be nice to explore.

As for Bust, when mama i s not happy, nobody is happy. :argue:

In the General section of the mx manual for my 1990 KLR, it says that anywhere grease is called for, to use Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2).

But they're KLRs, so KY, chicken fat, bacon drainings,whatever... They all ought to work.

Just sayin'...
