I JUST DID IT!!!!! But which one??????

Just signed the dotted line gentlemen, and dealer agreed. Can't believe it. The other dealer who wasn't going to order more FJRs, and who is 110 miles away, offered me $12,200 for a clutch bike. Well, these guys let me test drive a brand new A and AE (this one a demo with 60) with ZERO miles, and they offered to sell me a CRATED clutch bike for $11,900 (since the 0 mile I rode was being set as a demo), AND offered to swap the panels with another crated AE. So I'm the proud new owner of another unique silver A with 0 miles; just like I wanted it. Yeeeeehaaaaaa!!!! :yahoo: :yahoo:

So guys, if you want a brand new AE in Burgundy, this is your dealer. Oh, and did I tell you they have SEVEN more crated AEs????

Now the rest of the story. Test rode the AE, which is their last '06, and their demo. I immediately felt at home with it. What a blast. Took me a few 1-2 shirts to perfectly execute them. They were being a bit jerky, because just like a clutch bike, the 1-2 shift is longer and I was applying the throttle a hair too soon, but a mile later, I felt like one with the thing. PERFECT shifts. And guess what? Took it to a parking lot, and I was doing lock-to-lock U turns without even touching the rear brake.

What happened then? Well, as I said above, no '06s left, so the best price on an '07 was in the low $13Ks, as expected. Only way I'd buy it was if $11K, like many of you found them for. But since NO dealer had ever let me loose all I wanted on brand new machines, I felt the duty to close the deal with them. Plus I hadn't located an $11K AE (without crate damage or demo) anywhere anyway, and with shipping costs, it'd probably close to $12K anyway, so I wanted to reward these folks for their incredible customer service. Plus I think the clutch one makes more sense. Nobody knows how many miles the AE will last. Hopefully many thousands, but simply put, there're more things to go wrong; as easy as that. Then resale would be brutal, as evidenced already. And didn't want to pay more money for that. But let me tell you, HATS OFF to Yamaha. That thing is a technological masterpiece.

Ah, and what fueling issues? Darn, glad I didn't listen to the other dealer. These things ride like a dream. My only objection was the darn throttle, not surging, but I'll take care of that spring issue when we swap the panels.

If it wasn't for your help and perseverance to look beyond stupid issues, I'd have missed on the best bike in the market. I can tell you this thing is light years better than my BMW. Only things I'll miss is cruise and cancelling signals. Everything else is phenomenal. Including how clean the air is with the stock shield; CAN'T FREAKING BELIEVE THAT. Riding position is perfect right out of the box. Might just put sliders (knock on wood I never need them) and throttlemeisters.

Glad it worked out for you. I much like the newer and improved outlook on this post...than the slightly angry tone the other dealer seemed to exude. Most bikes don't have issues...and this is the forum to sort the niggly stuff out.

You're just in time to still sign up for WFO-6 in Park City where we'll have the largest gathering of FJR's on the planet at the end of July! 211 paid entrants at this point....and I would guess you'd be the only one with a silver '07.

Frame sliders can be purchased from Skyway, look him up under members and you will see all the items he offers. I grew up not far from you in Deming. I am thinking about making a road trip out there later in the September/October timeframe to see family and do some riding on the roads I grew up on. Take care and enjoy the ride. B)

Hey Ignacio, that rally sounds like a blast, but in July? Do you want to kill me man? Ha ha. I live in TX, but if it's milder up there, might think about it. I wanted to go to Torrey in September, so might get the trip ahead of schedule. Will look up this place. It'd take me at least 2 days to get there. Will start a thread in due time to look for 'riding buddies' around here. I live in El Paso, TX.

Hey Pilot, if you come this way, we need to hit Gila or Cloudcroft buddy. Have you ever been to the SUnspot highway? Well, asphalt is beat up now, unfortunately, but they recently finished paving from there to Timberon, and both the asphalt and the twisties are incredible. Let me know when you're here.

Well, still home without a bike. Turns out I'M doing the whole swap. That's okay. I'm getting to know my bike in and out, while it still has ZERO miles. And when in doubt, I'm working on the other bike first < he he>. Man, the front was a nightmare. SInce nobody there had worked on them before at this extent, we all are learning. I was told to remove some sub-frame bolts in the front, and took us an hour, and freaking bolts DIDN'T have to come off. At least this 17-yr-old girl is helping me out, so better to see her than those greasy, ugly other monkeys there <lol>. I was laughing at this girl, taking the frame bolts like Rambo (holster and everything). My 16-yr-old can't even remove a light bulb. And she welds, is a refrigerated A/C tech, works on her own bikes, races. Cool. Now I'm going to make my lazy daughters work.

Anyway, already relaxed the spirng, and worked like a charm; EXACTLY how you guys said. I also rerouted the ABS sensor since I don't like the reflectors. Looks factory. Will have to cut the rear reflectors off a little shorter than the plate, so it also looks stock. Brought home the radiator plastic shroud so I can cover it with fiberglass screen material to prevent bugs from filling the radiator, then rendering it useless in this heat over time. Always do that to my bikes, and radiators are always like new, and it takes a minute to remove all dead bugs with a tooth brush.

If anybody needs to know how to take these things apart. or exactly what needs to be assembled on these bikes (it's the most I've ever seen), I'm your guy, and would be happy to help. Bike is looking awesome.

As a comment; has anybody seen the damn system to raise the windscreen? There're a ton of pulleys in there; unbelievable. If I had known it was that complicated (and heavy, I bet), a manual adjustment would have shorten the bike like an inch easy. Oh well, hope it lasts. I'd like to disable the go-down-when-off feature, if somebody know. Must be a switch telling the computer it's not all the way down, but wonder what happens if it stays open all the time; will the motor work? Later gang. Need to rest, and be back tomorrow to finish the job.

Oh, and we thought the mirrors (on the assembled bike; which means MY mirrors) came off first with the 12mm nut underneath, THEY DON'T. Removed it, and a million washers and metal bearings (like BBs) came crashing down. Took the new mirror apart and put the pieces on my mirror, but they're like 8 washers that need to be in certain order. No wonder it was loctited. So NEVER take it apart unless you have to, and pay utmost attention to remove the stack of washers without mixing them up. Well, enough for now. Later gang.

Hi there. Thanks for the link. It sounds AWESOME. I could make it, but won't be in a position to know until much closer, due to many projects I have going on right now, but I'll certainly try. If I can only spare a few days, might do a northern NM southern CO tour, like I did last year. Or a couple of shorties I also did last year: Big Bend and Greer, AZ (hwy 191). Will keep you posted.

Congrats on the new FJR!!!

I received my FJR back at the end of August. I currently average 82 miles a day on the bike and still love it. My only complaint is the silver color seems to be a magnet for bugs. There are some other blue and cherry bikes in the area but they never seem to have the number of bugs I collect. However, I will deal with the bugs since I love the bike.

Living in Nevada I have no where near the bugs you guys down in Texas have.

Hey buddy, the bike is home already. I started playing with all the damn connectors until I disabled the right one. I can tell you my '07 didn't have (or at least didn't appear to be) a loop. It was a connector, with both sides going into their respective harnesses. Maybe it was a longer loop, but not like the picture linked. It plain looks like a normal connector with 2 cables. The plastic housing is identical. It's bundled with a connector with 6 wires, which is for the motor. I removed it with the nose off, so can't specifically pinpoint location, but I'd definitely try removing the screen first. It's a royal nightmare to remove the nose; believe me. I'm a pro at doing it now, but it's a 2-people job. And 2 VERY patient people, I might add. Take care.

Hey guys, FJR is finally home. What a beauty in that silver color... and that SHINY CLUTCH < ha ha>. Did all the things I wanted:

-fiberglass screening on the radiator shroud so no bugs ever get into my radiator

-disabled automatic-down screen feature

-relaxed main spring one turn (what a difference)

-removed solenoid from 'glove box'.

Put plenty of tie-wraps to tidy things up with the wiring. Checked all the torques, etc. Just need help with 2 things, but will start a separate thread. Great to be an official member of the family.

I could go for that although the dark cherry is also looking good. I mike ride over Emery Pass tomorrow, probably on the Busa, early, before the heat and storms

Hey man, good to hear of a quasi-neighbor. If I wasn't leaving to Vegas for a week I'd be there guaranteed. If you want to wait until next week, or have a 2nd run, I'm for it. I was going to run to Sunspot and Timberon to see if I have a problem with the altitude changes on this bike. It'd show there for sure, as you climb over 4K' of altitude in just 16 miles. I want to modify the ECU for the diagnostic capability in case I have to **** with it up there. But I have the feeling that only improves throttle response, but not the ECU not adjusting for altitude fast enough. I hope I can leave the bike alone. Just need to do a TB synch; I did all the rest. Will do it at 600 miles, which would be after coming back from the mountains.

Once I'm sure the bike is healthy, need to order Corbin seats, sliders, throttlemeisters, dark gray stock replacement Cee Bailey's screen, nicer pegs, and carb sticks.

My buddy Randey Bamford's brother has a busa but recently sold his FJR, so you're obviously not him, but it could be his ex-bike ('04 silver as well). They live in Cruces too, but haven't heard from him in a long time, so I even deleted him from my address book. Sold his brother my bike trailer some time back, and that was the last time I saw both. Good to hear from you. Hope to meet you one of these days. Sent you a PM as well, by the way. Take care.
