O.k. so SOME of the stuff ins't 100% accurrate, but hell

I've watched that guy squeeze elephant dung to get water out of it! AND DAMNIT, THAT IS FREEKING IMPRESSIVE!!!!!

Yea, my wife watches that ands Survivorman. We both agree Bear is giving bad advice and we saw the life vest.

Bring on Les - AKA survivorman!

Keith, I'll bet you didn't watch him drink it, though...

He probably chucked it off camera and had a chilled Perrier instead in his airconditioned trailer :evilsmiley03:

Bummer. I've always liked Bear. Credibility is a hard thing to regain in the public eye (anyone remember Geraldo Rivera and

?) Of course the publicity it stirs may be worth something. :unknw:

It's a lot more real than fake; I'll keep watching. The stuff he's done is quite impressive. It's easy to be condesending while sitting on your duff, drinking beer and eating pretzels (not that's there's anything wrong with that). Armchair quarterbacks? We've got plenty; you sound like the kids in the Jeremy McGrath video game commercial ("get off your duffs and ride; maybe someday there will be a video game about you").

I used to TiVo this show, and eventually just kind of got fed up of his poor survival advice. I'll admit, alot of his advice is good, like where to find water, don't eat mushrooms, how to make a snow cave etc. nearly every show he makes a decision that is risky, to the point where if he failed he'd be dead.

Here's 2 examples.

One: In the Scottish highland episode he chooses to 'scoot' across a fallen log that is bridging a very deep canyon and a swift river. He even admits that its dangerous and briefly outlines the potential consequences, mainly death/drowning. Then he does it anyway, and when the otherside doesn't pay out like he wanted he just shrugs and follows the river like he planned before the crossing.

Example 2:

In the Moab episode he enters a slot canyon and when it dead ends, he stems up about 40 feet to get out. Stemming is climbing by wedging limbs on opposing walls to gain height. Most people cannot do this manuever well and it becomes dangerous. even done well it's tiring. In a true survival situation, this could be fatal. Who advocates taking unnecessary risks like that?? I lost alot of respect for his skill right then.

I don't know if its TV sensationalism, or if he's so 'hard and fit' that he forgets what normal average people are capable of, or not capable of as the case may be.

Les Stroud is really the extreme other side of the spectrum, in fact he's kind of a weenie most times, but he gets it. The need to make it out safely vastly outweighs the cool-guy tactics that may net a fortunate gain. It's all about taking as few risks as possible and ensuring your own survival by avoiding things with dire consequences.

Ohhhh noooooo.... He squeezed it right into his mouth. No camera trickery there, just tasty elephant dung juice..... mmmmm delicious... :bad:

He also peed on his own shirt and put it on his to keep from overheating, now that's determination!

He's still the man!

I agree..more real than fake but I remember that epsiode where he was floating with the backpack and you could clearly see the life vest...his jacket was all puffy and then in the next scene it was deflated.

Still, it's different and beats watching "The Batchelor" witht he wife!

Listen you all you big babies!!!!!!! It's a TV show take it with a grain of salt he's got some good ideas, a bit over the top but at the end of the day it's just a bit of fun. Anyway I was always taught to stay put?

No, it's REALITY tv, that means it's FOR REAL! If he doesn't do what he says I want my half hour wasted back!

nearly every show he makes a decision that is risky, to the point where if he failed he'd be dead.
one time, he was rafting down a river and suddenly decides to stop and hoof it through one of those swamp forests (tree roots above the water). even i knew that was stupid because the vegitation in those places can shread you like a food processor. he wasted something like 3 hours only to come back to the raft and continue down to the coast. lots of wasted energy and the totally wrong decision to make when i survival mode.

both are better than the show *named* "Survivor" which, to my dissapointment, would have been more appropriately named, "Politics".
