According to Faster And Faster, Honda may be unveiling their new 2009 VRF1000 this fall.

It is said to have a V-5 engine derived from the RC211V MotoGP bike. Very cool. I can't wait.

I think a v-5 has been rumored in either the VFR or Blackbird since Honda created the RC211V bike. The 1000cc engine has been rumored since before the last redesign took place. In other words, I wouldn't hold your breath Gunny.

had a 2002 vfr with v-tech for 8 months. what a joke. linear power is what you want. not some annoying v-tech blip in the middle of a long sweeper at speed.

Its about time. Honda's sport touring options are mighty long in the tooth.

We took a 2002 VFR800 and sectioned it for the lab. Its a cool engine, and makes a nice demonstration.

If Honda actually puts a VFR1000 based on the V-5 configuration, I will strongly consider buying one. Right now I'm sort of thinking more about the new BMW FIM Superbike that will also be available in limited quantities for 2009.

Supposedly they fixed this in 2006 by lowering the engine speed at which it transitions from 2V to 4V.

We sectioned a 2002 for demonstration purposes in the lab. The V-TEC strategy they used was actually quite ingenious, with minimal extra parts. Lots of complaints though. It stands to reason that there would be an abrupt blip when breathing is so strongly affected.

I am looking forward to the development of camless engines to the point where they are suitable for racing. There are camless engines out there right now that are being used in lower speed applications. A camless engine, with honest to goodness pneumatic control of the valves (not just pneumatic return springs) would allow you to customize everything about the breathing using the engine control module. I think this is a possibility in the next decade as it becomes increasingly important to figure out how to extract the most energy out of fossil fuels while maintaining legal emissions levels.

Wha??? You didn't like that "slap on the ass" in the middle of a sweeper? ;)

Had my 2002 VFR for 3 yrs. Over time I got used to the "surge." Just couldn't get used to working on it every weekend trying to keep it alive.

GunMD - I've been hearing this rumor on VFRD for years. If it's finally going to happen in '09 great. I just hope that's not the color they're going to go with! :bad:

 
Had an 02 vfr and an 03... really liked em both... almost 20k miles between the two.

vtec? not an issue, just keep the revs above 6800, how hard is that? shift man, just shift, you don't have to look at the tach, just snip a gear. Thought the vtec was kinda fun actually.

Probably won't see it again though, or if so it will be in some other incarnation.
