Does anyone have an oldie sitting around that is less than $1000?

My son has been serving in the Air Force for going on 7 years. I haven't seen him for 2years since he was sent to England. He's trying to get 3 weeks in January to come home :yahoo: and he needs to learn to ride and take his test while he is here. Great that he picked or is trying to pick the coldest month but oh well. He cannot get his license over there until he has his Maryland endorsement. Please let me know if you know of a bike that will be able to pass inspection and is available. I would like to find something soon so I can have it ready when he gets here.

Thanks,

Keith

I don't have anything for you Keith-just wanted to give you a bump. Good luck and thank your son for me for his service. George

I'm old and my eyes aren't what they used to be, but that doesn't look like a 1992 GS. Not with aluminum frame and all. And the add says it isn't the actual bike, AND they want a quick sale. Buyer beware.

While the frame may look 'alu', it's really steel painted silver.

That bike came out in the late '80s (still made today -- sort'a) and the engine got its start in the mid-'70s.

Yes, the buyer should always 'beware' -- but, Suzuki GS models have a very good record of reliability, ease of maintenence, and all-around 'goodness'. It might be worth a look?

OP: all-other-things-being-equal, apply greater value (in decision making) to the newest bike you can afford.

Wow, lotsa changes from the early 80's GS bikes I owned. I lost interest in them. Good looking by '92.

Thanks everyone. I think my sons friend is going to let him learn on his Ninja250. :yahoo: I just want him home for some hugs.

Keith -

I'm just over in Damascus with an older KLR650 on street tires that you can borrow if he's tall enough. I'll pm you with my phone #.
