Yahoo, I picked up my new 06 FJR1300A from the dealer yesterday. :yahoo: The dealer was 190 miles away so I road my 06 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 (My trade) there and road the FJR back. Funny how the trip home was longer (236 miles). It made for a 426 mile day. What a great day.

I thought that it might take a little time to get use to the different riding position, coming off a cruiser and all, but after 25miles I felt right at home. I didn't get the lower back pain that I get when spending long hours on the cruiser.

There were a few things that I didn't care for. One was the grips. They are way too hard and too small around. I have some grip puppies on order that should fix it, I hope. Second was, the way the tranny shifted. It was very stiff and sometimes it took a couple hits to get it to the next gear. I am hoping that it will smooth out with more miles and a switch to synthetic oil. I guess that was it (only two gripes). I'm not doing very well.

I didn't find the on/off throttle problem everyone was talking about to be a problem at all. I did feel it at first but it didn't seem to take long and I completely forgot about it. It just seemed to go away.

The things I did noticed, coming from a cruiser was, I had brakes, I had power anytime I wanted it and going through a corner that was a thrill on my Shadow was just a casual cruise on the FJR. I never did come close to dragging my bags though. I guess I just need more practice. Well that was my yesterday. I probably should go for a ride and get some more practice. :yahoo:

Oh by the way, how do I stop this windshield from retracting every time I turn the key off?

Nice post. Yep, I got bigger softer grips too. Shifting does get smoother in time, even without synthetic oil.

Having power, comfort, and agility is very nice isn't it? Woohoo! Have fun and welcome to the board!

CONGRATULATINS!!!

Enjoy the new "toy".

I bought a "previously loved" 2003 last winter and started the 2006 season in April.

As a former cruiser guy myself, I fully understand; I have found "my bike" and I'm not going back. :D

The thing you will notice (at least I did) is depending on how you position your foot on the peg the very first thing that will "drag" in a corner is the outside of your foot.

As for the windshield, there are plenty of tech articles here for those kinds of modifications. Although I left mine stock because I generally don't raise the windshield unless I am going to ride at a sustained speed of over 50 or so. I enjoy the air otherwise...

Welcome to the FJR family :yahoo:

Mike

Congrats! and good post. I think you will like the FJR more and more as you get it broken in, and begin to enjoy the bike.

What? Your nose? The disgusting scab on your doohicky? The wart off your butt? :dntknw:
Ya I know, I know. I screwed up the title. I tried to go back in and change it but it wouldn't let me.

It was supposed to be "I picked it up yesterday" but to answer your question. Take your pick. I knew someone was going to get me on that one. B)

Sorry, dude, but ever since skooterG gave up the whole tongue kiss, slobberin' thing with the noobs, I've become the very unoffical wait-for-the-noob-to-****-up-and-pounce-on-'im welcomer - I guess.

Welcome, bro. Enjoy the joint

Thanks, I did find some good info on how to make the change. That will be my first mod.

Even though I'm a FNG myself (had my '06 less than a week) I'm still gonna welcome you to the family... :clapping: :clapping:

Welcome! The standard position is easier on the back than a cruiser's position. My back I know I could never ride a cruiser. Get some sliders. Ride Safe! TJ

Yup! That should be your first farkle. Go to the vendors section and lookie-see what Skyway has for sale, OR any of those who sell sliders...not TOGs (Tip Over Guards). Buy them and put them on.

Annnnddd, welcome to the "land of loonies" known as: A.) FJR ownership; B.) the FJR Forum.

Thanks all for the welcome and all the good info. This is the kind of stuff that a noobe needs. The sliders are on their way.

There's a white plug under the right dash panel you can unplug. Your rocker switch will still raise and lower the shield but it will stay where it is at when you shut off.

Be sure you want to do this as it is very hard to hook back up. C.R.
